Betting For The 2012-13 NFL Season Begins

The upcoming National Football League (NFL) appears to be gearing up with intensity. Odds on the 2012-13 conference winners, Super Bowl champion and other match-ups are already being offered by several online Sports-books.

Super Bowl 2012-13 Favorites

The Green Bay Packers have been listed as favorites for Super Bowl champions by several sports betting sites including 888Sports, William Hill and bet365 and their odds range from 6/1 to 11/2. Odds of 7/1 are being offered by Hill on the Patriots, 10/1 on the Texans , 14/1 on the Eagles and 49ers. The other betting sites are pretty much in line with these numbers.

888Sports has odds of 18/1 on the 2012-13 winners, the Giants, while Hill and bet365 have odds of 20/1 hinting that the Giants may not repeat their victory. Therefore, this season offers a great chance to bet on an unlikely winner.

Betting on Conference and Other Matches

The three top online sports books show odds in favor of the Packers for the NFC Conference and the Patriots for the AFC Conference. Their Week 1 placements and spreads show some possible big games between the Cowboys and Giants, 49ers and Packers and Steelers and Broncos.

Jets @ Colts

Jets

The Jets are the only surprise in the playoffs. They were not even supposed to make the post season but here they are after upsets of the Bengals and Chargers. The O depends on the run WAY too much and that could be the downfall of the Jets. RB Thomas did not practice on Thursday but the absence was not injury related. They can not hope to win without a huge game from him.

The game plan of the Jets will be run the ball and hope to keep the Colts O off the field. The Colts are vulnerable to the run. But the Jets will face 46 guys in the box if they cannot pass for more than 100 yards against the Colts.

QB Sanchez has not been asked to do much passing the ball. In both games the Jets have been ahead. They will get behind against the Colts and it will be up to Sanchez to pass them to catch up. There is a great deal of doubt he can do that. The media has made a lot about rookie Sanchez winning his first 2 playoff games. … Read more at FryingPanSports

The Jets have some explaining to do.

t

The Jets staff under then coach Mangini failed to put QB Bret Favre on the injury list as required by NFL rules. Favre had a shoulder problem that would have prevented the average man from playing. According to a recent statement by Favre, he offered to sit out the final few games of the Jets 2008 season because he felt he was hurting the team. His offer was in spite of the fact that it would have ended his consecutive game streak.

Even though the culprit is now with the Browns, the Jets will likely be fined 25-50K by the league. The rule requiring injuries to be reported shows a level of hypocrisy of the NFL that is usually limited to politicians.

The league has said in the past that they require all teams to list their injuries because it levels the playing field by letting the opposition know who is likely to play and who is not. That is an outright lie. The real reason that the reports are required by rule is that the league wants to make that information available to the average joe that bets on games. The wise guys know the inside scoop on injuries. … Read more at FryingPanSports

Niblets for July

Note: We will continue our preview of the NFL teams on Monday.

Comment of the Month: From Steve on Vegas projects the Browns to win 7 games(???)

Go Browns!!! I think the Browns have more potential this year than the Bengals. The Bengals have had the same team in the past and can’t win. The Browns do have new systems but new is better than old and crappy.

Steve: I am a recovering Browns fan and have the receipts for a number of new TV sets to prove it. The TVs got so depressed with the Browns play that they committed suicide.

I hope I am wrong but I don’t like what I see from Mangini. The Bengals will be better on D with Rivers coming back and Palmer will make the difference. I still will bet the under.

Vegas projects the Browns to win 7 games(???)

CLE_logo-80x90

According to the over/under wins list put out by the odds makers in Vegas, the Browns are going to win 7 games but the Bengals are going to win only 6. These numbers look off to me.

The Browns are going to have a new QB, offensive and defensive system, key players on both sides of the ball. They traded their best receiver away and are shopping their only other starting pass catcher on EBAY without a minimum. And their other starting WR is suspended indefinitely by the Commissioner. They also have a new younger version of what they hope is Bill Belichick II in New England and not Bill Belichick I, the guy that they fired in Cleveland.

The Bengals have a quality experienced QB, the same O and D systems, and a coach that reportedly the players love to play for but is on the hot seat unless they win. My gut tells me that the Bengals are a lot closer to winning 7 or 8 games than the Browns are.

WR Braylon Edwards will have a lot of company when he runs patterns because he is the only deep threat the Browns have. Rookie WR Mohamed Massaquoi … Read more at FryingPanSports
