Some thoughts about Week 16/17 NFL.

Week 16 NFL

NOTE: On NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I discussed the news of the day, injuries from the previous week, and previewed all of this week’s games including a detailed analysis of the Browns game.

Steelers pulled a “Buckeye” by not showing up against a Raven team with a defensive backfield that could not cover me running a pattern. What happened? They choked. If the Steelers get in the playoffs they will have fallen backwards across the goal line. They could be a force but not if they play like they did against the Ravens.

Chip Kelly is out and if you were surprised SHAME ON YOU for not listening to NNR. Samantha and I have been telling you for weeks that this was coming. It was well deserved. As a former coach myself I can say that anyone that makes player decisions based on who he likes will never succeed.

The NFL is about play makers and Kelly gave away the guys that had the best ability to make plays. It was also a HUGE mistake to try to force his system on players that did not fit it. A good coach adapts his system to … Read more at FryingPanSports

4-10 6-8 D showed up last week. It has looked like it has already moved to LA.

Coaching staff has to win the last 2 to keep their jobs. If not the team will leave without giving them the forwarding address.

OK Carr showed his fear of inside rush last week by throwing picks. Run game is inconsistent.

D is coming. Mack is a BEAST. He had 5 sacks in a single game & leads the league.

Del Rio has the team heading up (unlike some teams in Northern Ohio).

My thoughts on Week 8 games

NOTE: On NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I discussed the news of the day, injuries from week 8, and previewed all week 8 games including the Browns/Cards.

Lions & Chiefs at London

DT Stafford has been a disaster. O line & run game are worse. Can they score?

D has been stressed by TOS on O.

KC Smith has been bad and Reid in on the hot seat. The DT D should help both.

The pass rush as disappeared D backfield is better w Berry but without a rush it suffers.

Bucs at Falcons

TB Winston has been up & down as has the run game.

Lovie has to get more Tampa 2 players. He has just a few now.

AT AT O has disappeared. It will be back against TB. Ryan has to get WR White back.

D has been much better this year. It will give Winston fits.

Chargers at Ravens

SD Rivers has a pass rating of 99.2. 15TDS 7X. O line & lack of run game have been big issues.

TE Gates is back but not yet FB condition. He must help a weak rec corps.

D has struggled. Injuries are … Read more at FryingPanSports

Browns comeback is not what it seems.

search

Yes, the Browns staged the greatest comeback for a road team in NFL history overcoming a 25 point deficit. And yes, the defense looked great in the second have holding the Titans scoreless. And the offense moved the ball seemingly at will. But the real story about the game is not in the statistics or in the game plans of both teams.

The story is simple. When Titan QB Jake Locker went out of the game with the thumb injury, the game was effectively over.

It seems I am the only one that remembers just how bad a QB Charlie Whitehurst really is. Assuming Locker is going to be out a while, the only hope the Titans have to win games is the 3rd string QB Zack Mettenberger.

Meanwhile the Browns have a ton of issues that must be resolved before they can become a factor in the AFC North.

The biggest one is the defense. The front 7 was pushed around Sunday like a pile of loose dirt by a bulldozer. Often the good but not great O line of the Titans pushed them 6 to 8 yards off the line of scrimmage. That is not acceptable. I Read more at FryingPanSports

Greatest values in the 2014 NFL Draft

NFL Draft (2)

NOTE: News, Notes & Rumors will be on the air Monday at 6PM EDT talking draft (The Bill Smith Radio Show or https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/) following Mr. Moo at 5 (). Please join us. Thanks

Some teams reach for a player due to need. Those reaches end up costing the team in the long term. Tomorrow I will discuss the biggest reaches. Today we will discuss the greatest values found in the draft.  While it is way to early to judge team drafts, we can look at teams that got steals in individual picks.

Jets Trevor Reilly OLB Utah – Expected to be a late 2nd round pick but fell to the 7th round.

He could very well end up starting this season.

Vikings David Yankey OG Stanford – He was my top OG and was expected to go in the last 1st or early 2nd. He fell to pick 108 and was a steal.

Cowboys Ahmad Dixon SS Baylor – Dixon is a hard hitter with above average coverage skills. He was projected as a 4th round talent but the Boys got a deal taking him with the 248th pick in … Read more at FryingPanSports
