4 Ways to Enhance Your Spring Training Baseball Experience

It’s that time of year again! It might still be snowing in some parts of the country, but residents in Arizona and Florida are pulling out their short sleeves and flip flops for another round of Spring Training baseball. The regular season won’t start until the end of March, but in the meantime, players and fans alike are warming up in the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues.

If you’re planning a trip to either of these locations to take in a game or two, here’s some tips to maximize your experience:

Pick a team. Sure, it can be argued that a baseball game is largely about the experience and not so much about the slow-moving game in front of you. But even if that’s true, it’s more fun when you’re invested in one of the teams playing. If you’re stuck in Florida and your team is in Arizona, go ahead and pick a second favorite for the time being! Unless you’re feeling antagonistic, your best bet is to pick the team of the stadium you’ll be attending — wouldn’t want to cause any of the stalwart fans to get feisty!

Buy some gear. Whether you just picked a team to root … Read more at FryingPanSports

Top 5 Reasons to Hate A-Rod

Seeing how the media was treating A-Rod in his entrance to Spring Training inspired me to write about him.  The fact that there is no drama for him entering this season was a headline story on ESPN earlier this week, and that just goes to show you what type of person he is.  There is always something going on with him, whether he’s injured, complaining about his contract, or linked to performance enhancing drugs.  Here are my top 5 reasons to hate him, and I would love to hear what you think!

5.  Yelling “Got it” when running past the Toronto third baseman is Busch League.
4.  One word:  A-ROID! (It’s amazing how fast the media forgets)
3.  I would have probably loved you if you came to the Red Sox, but you didn’t.
2.  Slapping the ball out of Bronson Aaroyo’s glove and whining about being called out shows that you’d cheat to win.
1.  Announcing that you are declaring for free agency in the 9th inning of the Red Sox World Series game shows us how much you crave the attention.

Fantasy Baseball Fans—Beware of the WBC players in your drafts.

BB

By Bill Smith

Note to readers: Niblets will return next Saturday.

There are two reasons that you should shy away from drafting WBC participants. We have seen the list of injuries that key players have sustained. As bad as those injuries are, they may represent just the sales tax on the costs to teams that allowed their players to participate.

First, there is a much higher chance of injury than a given player would have had he not played in the WBC. The level of competition was way too high way too soon. They did not have the usual slow process of most springs working into game shape. That lack of warm up time and intensity of competition against national teams that were ready for the games will show up in mid season injuries.

Be particularly careful drafting pitchers that were in the WBC. The usual spring pitch count limit in the first 2 or 3 appearances for starters is 30-50. Some WBC starters went 100 to 120 pitches in game conditions not in the laid back or laid out games of spring training. That is a prescription … Read more at FryingPanSports
