Brady & the NFLPA need to shut up!

X NFLPA

NOTE: Today on NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I broke down the Browns depth chart and projected starters.

Those of you that read FPS regularly know I have no love for either the League and Roger Goodell or the NFLPA. But really the NFLPA has to shut up about wanting an independent hearing officer for appeals of penalties.

The NFLPA wanted every cent possible for the current players in the last negotiations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

They sold out the retired players. They took every dime they could for the active players and totally ignored the needs of the retired players. If I was a former NFL player I would sue the NFLPA for lack of representation and support. The NFLPA claims to represent the retired players but all they do is throw the old folks under the bus. The sad part is that the retired players built the league so that the current players can make the money they enjoy. It reminds me of Joan of Arc. She led the french to a victory in the 100 years war against England. The French thanked her by burning her at the stake.

Open letter to Sen. Sherrod Brown and Sen. Rob Portman

The NFL and NFLPA have conspired to prevent retired players from getting the health care they have earned and deserve.

The NFL has falsely assumed that the NFLPA represents both current and retired players. That is not the case at all. The NFLPA has made it very clear by words and actions that they could care less about those no longer in the game. Given the opportunity to grant more money to retired players or the current players, they have chosen to screw the retirees and get more for the active guys.

By allowing the NFLPA to represent the retired players, the NFL has turned it back on those that need help the most. The NFL finally agreed to give the thousands of former players suffering from concussion syndrome a total of 765 million dollars for health care. That is not nearly enough given the skyrocketing cost of health care. The judge in the case has indicated … Read more at FryingPanSports

Bob Grant’s update on the retired player issues.

I wanted to share an update to the retired players with my readers.

Bob Grant will be joining us on Monday June 4 to bring us up to date on the issues that face retired players.  Please join me in supporting our retired players.  It was on their backs and their bodies that the NFL that we all love was built.

Communique on Retired Player Progress

Fellow Retired Players,

Just a moment to bring you up to speed on a few recent events.

The Independent Retired Player Summit, held in Las Vegas Last week was great.  Under the new format it was the best that we have had.  The Lawyers and Doctors presenting were allowed twenty minutes to introduce themselves and then given time to conduct individual workshops.  All gave great, interesting, informative and compact presentations.  The Players and Wives were given two hours each day for forums and discussion.  If you were unable to attend I can tell you that they were fantastic.  More than a dozen of them agreed to serve on a committee to work toward Improvement and Advancement of Retired Player Affairs and encouraging ALL Retired Players, from every quarter, to do the same , Read more at FryingPanSports

Best comment of the month: “The retired NFL players are pawns in the CBA negotiations.”

by Marvin Cobb on Mar 19th, 2010

Well said, Bill. Thank you for speaking up for us old timers, as we continue to find our voice and stand up for ourselves. The Independent Advocates for Retired Players are gathering for the second year in a row in Las Vegas next month to educate and inspire our fellow former players to find our voices and stand up for better pensions and a reformed disability system that takes into account our unique health challenges. Again, thank you for your support.

I really appreciate all the comments we get. Your comments keep me writing this site. Marvin, I can not add anything to what you have said. Too often both the owners and active players seem to forget that it was the Jim Browns and thousands of other players that have made the game what it is today. Had it not been for them, the current guys would not be getting anything close to the money they enjoy.
