Something is rotten in Denver.

Note: On NNR yesterday Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports & I reviewed the Divisional NFL Playoff games including the issues of calls and the Bills naming a coach. The podcasts are on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/.

The loss by the Broncos was a wake up call for the team, team ownership and their Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning. Some difficult decisions will have to be made over this off season by both Peyton and team management. The biggest problem for the Broncos is that those decisions will be made by John Elway.

Elway’s first order of business was to get rid of a coaching staff that took the defensively challenged Broncos to the Super Bowl last year and won four straight division titles. But why was the team defensively challenged? Elway felt that bringing in Manning would solve all the issues of the team. But the neglected D allowed the Seahawks to blow out the Broncos. This year Elway did add some better players on D but the O line was thin. When injuries occurred the O line became the problem. An already fragile 38 year old QB suffered an injury that ended the Broncos season.

On Peyton’s side the issues Read more at FryingPanSports

Now is time for Ohio State to leave the Little 10!

OSU

On Dec. 5 2013 I asked the question was it time for Ohio State to leave the Big 10. I wrote “All we have heard since the middle of the 2013 season was that Ohio State had no business being part of the BCS Championship discussion.  “They don’t play anybody.  The Big10 is worse than the American Conference formerly known as the Big East.  The Buckeyes have been blasted by SEC teams when they have backed into the Championship game.”

But things have changed for NCAA football and the Little 10. There is now a 4 team playoff system.  That is positive.  But in the case if the league the changes have not been for the better. The league has added Rutgers and Maryland. Neither of those teams are considered “power” teams.

Despite what University of Michigan people say, if you bought 2 two Coke products you got a pair of tickets to the Michigan Minnesota game at the Little House last Saturday.

Nebraska is the best addition the league has made but has not been a major power for years. Penn State was beginning to rebuild but then was hit with unprecedented penalties by the NCAA. And Iowa Read more at FryingPanSports

It is time for Oho State to put a muzzle on Dr. Gee

Brutus

Dr. Gee and I have a little history.  During his first stint as the President of OSU he would take calls during half time of the football games.  I called. Despite just accepting a nice salary bump for himself and tenured professors, Dr. Gee had just asked for more tax payer money.  I suggested that he and the others donate some of the large salary increases to offset the request to the legislature.  THAT was the last call that he ever took.  After that, the call in segment was dropped from the half time festivities.

For the second time in less than three years, Dr. Gee said something stupid for which he had to apologize.  Both times involved insults to the Catholic community.  His first was the “Sisters of the poor” comment.  This last one not only insulted the University of Notre Dame and its leadership but the entire SEC as well.

I have experience being a conservative in the liberal OSU.  I was told point blank that if I completed my graduate studies at OSU in political science, I would never get tenured.  My views were “too far out of the norm for this university.”  I … Read more at FryingPanSports
