John Fox will love Allen’s ability to play DE or DT.
4Jacksonville JaguarsTE RB DT T G QB?Leonard FournetteRBLSU
I would never take a RB in the 1st round. He is good but not 1st rounder.

News, Notes & Rumors for Week 3

News:

We heard from both NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. Both took questions but neither got high grades for their answers. Bisciotti said it never occurred to him to ask for a copy of the elevator tape of Ray Rice hitting Janay. My question is how did he ever make enough money to buy an NFL franchise with that small a level of curiosity?

Lots more injuries this week.

Redskins lost CB DeAngelo Hall for the season with an Achilles inury.

Ravens lost TE Dennis Pitta for the season with a dislocated hip.

Chargers lost RB Danny Woodhead for the year with a broken Fibula.

Steelers lost LB Ryan Shazier with a sprained MCL and CB Ike Taylor with a broken arm.

Bucs lost QB Josh McCown to a thumb injury.

Vikes lost QB Matt Cassel to a broken foot and TE Kyle Rudolph to a sports hernia. Cassel has been put on IR.

On Monday the Panthers lost 2 running backs.

The Titans will start QB Charlie Whitehurst because of the injury to Jake Locker. That is the wrong choice. Whitehurst is a decent backup but 6th round pick Zach Mettenberger is the real … Read more at FryingPanSports

Great win but Browns have a lot of work to do.

search

Clearly the Browns played a great game to get the win against the Saints. This was the first home opening win in a long time. The final drive by Brian Hoyer reminded me of the Cardiac Kids era. Hoyer drove the Browns from the 4 to a winning field goal. In the recent past the gaggle of quarterbacks the Browns have started would have thrown a pick or taken a bad sack to end the game.

Hoyer was outstanding. He was 24 of 40 for 204 yards and 1 TD with no picks. There were more than a few drops as well. But Hoyer hung in and showed he has outstanding vision to see the field. But a QB can not do that without some good catches on the other end. The much maligned WR group did well overall. There were some critical drops but the band of no-names came through when it counted. Miles Austin made 3 critical catches in the final drive. TE Gary Barnage was solid both blocking and catching. He had a key catch on the final drive on a 4th down that kept the Browns hopes alive.

The running game was OK but needs … Read more at FryingPanSports

News, Notes & Rumors for 9/9/14

News:

The best news possible for Bills fans is that Sabers owner Terry Pegula has reached agreement to buy the team. Pegula will keep the team in Buffalo.

The NFL claims they never saw the elevator video of Ray Rice knocking his girlfriend out. I find that not believable. To think that the most powerful sports league in the country couldn’t get a video that TMZ had no problem finding is a lie of the worst kind. It is an attempt to cover up the most ludicrous miscarriage of justice in the history of the NFL. If Roger Goodell had any guts at all he would have changed the suspension when he realized how unfair it was. But he doesn’t and won’t any time soon.

A prosecutor said that the feelings of the victim are taken into consideration when deciding how to proceed with a domestic violence case. In this case it is clear that Janay Palmer wanted Rice to get the minimum punishment. That would explain the decision to place Rice in a diversionary program.

Flag-mania was not prevalent in week 1 of the season. It was good to see that the zebras finally figured out that the DB … Read more at FryingPanSports

News, Notes & Rumors for 08/19/14

The radio version of NNR is a podcast while we look for a new broadcast host. Check out last night’s show reviewing week 2 and previewing the Browns/Redskins game.

News:

Thank heavens that the stupid extra point from the 15 yard line is over. The only thing that would be similar to this dumb move would be to move the free throw line to the 3 point distance. Somebody in the NFL office has WAY too much time on his hands.

It was Flag Day weekend again this week. Someone in the NFL office has to get the zebras under control. Every time a pass hits the ground both the QB and WR involved campaign for a flag. The refs are getting more camera time than a senatorial candidate.

There were a number of serious injuries this week. The Falcons lost their starting LT Sam Baker (PCL) for the year. The Jags have lost WRs Cecil Shorts (hamstring), Allen Robinson (hamstring), Tandon Doss (ankle) and RB Toby Gerhart (hip) for several weeks. The Rams lost OL Barrett Jones to back surgery. He is out indefinitely. They also lost RB Isaiah Pead to a ACL injury. He is expected to miss … Read more at FryingPanSports
