If the Broncos hire Gary Kubiak Peyton will not be back.

P Manning

Note: On NNR now Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports & I previewed the AFC and NFC Championship games including my picks against the spread. Then College Insider Kelron Sykes and I discussed the NCAA Championship game and some of the NFL news. The podcasts are on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/.

Former Texans HC Gary Kubiak is with the Ravens and had said he was not willing to interview for a HC job. But things changed when he got a call from the Broncos. Now he reportedly will take an interview.

The problem is that the one team that Peyton Manning wanted to go to when he left Indy was the Texans with Kubiak as HC. Frankly they said “thanks but no thanks.”

Peyton does not fit at all in the roll out passing game of Kubiak. That and the fact that Kubiak rebuffed Peyton’s request to come tell me that if Kubiak is the choice, Peyton will move on.

The only chance that Denver has to keep Peyton is to promote the OC Adam Gase to the HC spot. Peyton and Gase have a very good relationship. If the Broncos select Kubiak, then that tells me that they do not want Peyton Read more at FryingPanSports

News, Notes & Rumors for 9/9/14

News:

The best news possible for Bills fans is that Sabers owner Terry Pegula has reached agreement to buy the team. Pegula will keep the team in Buffalo.

The NFL claims they never saw the elevator video of Ray Rice knocking his girlfriend out. I find that not believable. To think that the most powerful sports league in the country couldn’t get a video that TMZ had no problem finding is a lie of the worst kind. It is an attempt to cover up the most ludicrous miscarriage of justice in the history of the NFL. If Roger Goodell had any guts at all he would have changed the suspension when he realized how unfair it was. But he doesn’t and won’t any time soon.

A prosecutor said that the feelings of the victim are taken into consideration when deciding how to proceed with a domestic violence case. In this case it is clear that Janay Palmer wanted Rice to get the minimum punishment. That would explain the decision to place Rice in a diversionary program.

Flag-mania was not prevalent in week 1 of the season. It was good to see that the zebras finally figured out that the DB … Read more at FryingPanSports

News, Notes & Rumors for 08/19/14

The radio version of NNR is a podcast while we look for a new broadcast host. Check out last night’s show reviewing week 2 and previewing the Browns/Redskins game.

News:

Thank heavens that the stupid extra point from the 15 yard line is over. The only thing that would be similar to this dumb move would be to move the free throw line to the 3 point distance. Somebody in the NFL office has WAY too much time on his hands.

It was Flag Day weekend again this week. Someone in the NFL office has to get the zebras under control. Every time a pass hits the ground both the QB and WR involved campaign for a flag. The refs are getting more camera time than a senatorial candidate.

There were a number of serious injuries this week. The Falcons lost their starting LT Sam Baker (PCL) for the year. The Jags have lost WRs Cecil Shorts (hamstring), Allen Robinson (hamstring), Tandon Doss (ankle) and RB Toby Gerhart (hip) for several weeks. The Rams lost OL Barrett Jones to back surgery. He is out indefinitely. They also lost RB Isaiah Pead to a ACL injury. He is expected to miss … Read more at FryingPanSports

Roger Goodell’s NFL Wheel of Misfortune!

Wheel

Ryan Neiman of Sports District Radio is our guest on NNR tonight 6 PM EDT on or https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/.

“Hi I am Roger Goodell and welcome to my NFL Wheel of Misfortune show! Johnny who is our first victim?”

“Well Roger, it is Arizona Cardinal linebacker Daryl Washington come on down! Daryl has been a bad boy that has been caught taking PED’s for a third time.”

“Well Daryl spin the NFL Wheel of Misfortune!”

“Too bad for you Daryl you get indefinite suspension. That is the worst penalty we give out. It means you have to sit out for 12 months from today and petition for reinstatement. Then Daryl, if I feel like it and you have been a very good boy I might let you back in the league. Of course I might not let you back in too if I am having a bad day. Daryl would you like to appeal the penalty and spin again?”

“Yes please.”

(Buzzer sounds)

“Too bad Daryl. I decided your appeal is denied and you get the indefinite suspension. All in all Daryl that will cost you at least 3 million dollars. Please take our home version of the game … Read more at FryingPanSports

Playbook-gate is an issue for the Browns.

nfl

I could care less about the Jets or the Patriots. Some say the two are rivals but they are not. A nail is related to a hammer but they are not rivals. The nail gets pounded at regular intervals just like the Jets.

The media has missed the point of Playbook-gate entirely. Jet coach Rex Ryan is certain that he is the smartest guy in the sport. Most intelligent people realize that is not the case. It takes hubris to pass out playbooks like Halloween candy. And Hubris is Ryan’s middle name. However, Browns fans need to know one thing about Playbook-Gate.

Antonio Cromartie was on the NFL Channel and said something that disturbed me. He said that when Mike Pettine was the DC the Pats could tell what defense the Jets had called by the way the team was aligned prior to the snap. While Cromartie is infamous for spreading things around, if this is true it is a problem.

Browns fans have yet to see the team take the field with the Pettine defense. If Cromartie is mistaken there is no problem. However, teams in the AFC North are well equipped to take advantage of pre-snap reads of … Read more at FryingPanSports

Brady & Manning vs. Otto Graham and Bart Star

HOF

NOTE: Check out the live News, Notes and Rumors show on Monday, Thursday and Friday at 6 PM Eastern on or the archive of the shows on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/. On Monday Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I discuss the results of the weekend. Thursday shows alternate between NFL Draft and basketball. On Friday Tony Williams Giants beat writer for Metro New York joins Samantha and me to preview the upcoming games.

With the AFC Championship between the Patriots and the Broncos, we saw the 15th game between Tom Brady and Payton Manning. Because of that we heard from every sports talk show the ranking of the “5 greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.” Nearly every one was filled with quarterbacks that have played in the last 15 years. There is a MAJOR issue with that. The game has changed more than any other professional sport over the last 60 years. This is not comparing apples to oranges. It is closer to comparing apples to atom bombs.

Forget looking at passer ratings or touchdowns thrown. When Otto Graham and Bart Star played, the head slap of an offensive lineman by a defender was legal and … Read more at FryingPanSports
