2014 Browns Autopsy today on NNR

Note: On NNR today Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports & I reviewed the Browns 2014 season and discussed the needs of the team in the draft and free agency for 2015. The podcast is on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/.

ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi has talked about covering the Browns in terms of the 100 years’s war. Unless the Browns are able to convince a veteran QB to come, they will be forced to start Johnny Manziel or a rookie QB in 2015. That could well make the 100 year’s war seem like a weekend in Vermont.

There is almost no chance that the Browns can bring in a quality veteran QB in giving the reputation of instability and lack of solid wide receivers. But there is no chance to bring a quality WR in without a solid QB to throw to him. The best chance the Browns have is to trade for a QB under contract then recruit a veteran WR.

My first choice would be to trade with the Titans for QB Zack Mettenberger. He played college ball at LSU in a pro style offense. He is 24 years old and started 6 games for the Titans. If they decide to Read more at FryingPanSports

Browns face a QB question yet again next year.

Note: On NNR today Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports & I reviewed the Browns Panthers game including the other key games Sunday. The podcast is on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/.

The Browns were hoping that Johnny Manziel would show improvement in the last two games of the season after a dismal start in week 15 against the Bengals. But as happens far too often, the starter and his backup, Brian Hoyer, both went down during week 16. So for the 7th time in recent seasons, the Browns may have to start their 3rd QB for the final game.

Manziel had only a quarter Sunday before getting what can only be described as a mysterious injury. But he showed the same bad mechanics as in his last start. The issues with his mechanics can not be solved in a week. He will have to work over the off season to fix the mechanics. A new issue was his way wide stance throwing the ball. That prevents steeping into the throw.

Hoyer is certainly moving on. While he will likely not get a “guaranteed” starting spot, he will be able to compete for that position with another team. But he has Read more at FryingPanSports

Browns/Vikings live game notes.

Good job by Rubin getting Peterson.

Robertson did a nice job tracking TE.

Peterson was one missed tackle away from a 70 yard TD.

Nobody even in the same area code of Jennings.  Where is the D?

Wright WIDE open too.  Anyone playing D?

Skrine had to jet back to get to the receiver.  Bad read by him.

9 yard run by Peterson.  GRAB GRAB GRAB

Gibson misses the tackle of Peterson.  1st & goal at the 2.

MN 7 CL 0

Rainey with a one yard run and Hoyer is 0-2.  Great start to the “New, new Browns.”

Good coverage by Skrine on Peterson.

Kruger gets by the block and gets the tackle of Peterson.

Haden missed the tackle but others fill in to force the 3 and out.

Bess has the first and gave it back trying to extend the run.

Ogbonnaya gets a third of a yard on his first two rushes.

Hoyer throws the ball into the ground.  Looked bad.

Great effort by Cameron to reach for the first down.   The O line did OK.

Hoyer finds a wide open Gordon.  Gordon got open on a stop and go that … Read more at FryingPanSports
