Some horrible and obnoxious things were found when the health department’s inspection reports were reviewed by ESPN. These reports were of arenas and stadiums in North America where some major sporting events were held. As per these reports, around 30% of all the venues which were host to leagues in 2009 had more than 50% of their food and beverage vendors receiving certification that they had violated the standards that were set for handling food (though the drink holders seemed somewhat sanitary). All the violations as reported were critical and very major. The violations mainly were storing the food and then serving at an inadequate temperature which will stimulate the growth of pathogens. The food was served at improper temperature as there were no proper equipments, the staff members did not follow hygienic practices as they did not wash hands after using restrooms and touching their faces, the cooking place was infested with insects and rodents which could easily contaminate the food and usage of same equipment for doing different things.

The report of the department brought to the notice major violations of standards and most of these can prove to be extremely dangerous. Though the reviews and the findings of the reports were unnerving and nauseating no instance of an outbreak of illnesses was reported from any area after a game was held. ESPN though did find some cases where there were illnesses caused to some people because of the food that they ate in the stadium. There are few instances and thus to trace the exact cause is not very easy for anyone. Though nothing major can be proved with limited information available but it is always better to be careful and consider the findings of the reports. The report has clearly stated the major violations of the standards that are taking place and as it is difficult to find the exact food or drink source of any illness one needs to be more careful as it is always better to be safe than be sorry. Make good use of a travel cup holder to make sure your remains sanitary. As the illness usually affects a few days after the food has been consumed tracing the exact source and cause becomes very difficult.

One should also analyze the statistics which show that when one compares the M&T Bank Stadium compared to the FedEx the former is safer as it has 4% vendors who have received citations whereas the latter has 36%. All the vendors of the Verizon center received the citations thus it is advisable to avoid eating at these places.

Booming technology definitely made our lives better but because of technology, things are not quite the same. There are changes that happened on our society which can make some of us regret why technology happened at all. One of these is the fact that people today don’t have so much time enjoying outdoors. The kids specially are the ones which are affected the most. Most kids acquired the same mentality that their parents show, that you can get it all in the comforts of your home. Actually, it’s not true. Camping for instance is still the best way for kids to enjoy outdoors. Without opening their hearts and minds to the fun and excitement camping can give them, kids will prefer being stuck at home forgetting everything about nature. Continue to read below to find out how you can encourage your kids to go camping.

If you are a parent who is in the process of introducing camping to your kids, the first step will be showing your kids that you are eager to go camping yourself. Everything starts with you. Make this a special event for you and your kids. When they see that you make a big deal of this trip, they will imbibe the same spirit and look forward to the trip as well. Have them help you plan and pack the gear you need. Also have them help set up the tent and inflate the air beds.

Involve your kids with all the details of your planning. Tell them one by one the activities that you have in mind when you get there. Think of the things that your kids love. Know the things that your kid loves to do indoors and find some way where you can bring those things outside. Does he love to play role playing games in PC? Why not play some hunting games when you go in the woods? Does he like to play with his friends online? You can make arrangements so that his friends can go with you on your camping trip. There are so many ways to make your child be interested on a camping trip. You just need to be creative when planning. In the process, you will learn a lot about your kids, things that you haven’t got the chance to see when both of you are busy with your stuff at home.

Before you go out to your camping trip, prepare your child for the different conditions out there in the camping area. You must explain to your child that he might experience some inconveniences while camping but all of that will be part of the experience. Show your child how enthusiastic you are despite all these inconveniences and show him all the positive things your family will be able to experience when you go camping together.

AFC Seeds

  1. Colts At 12-0 there is little chance anyone will beat the Colts for home field.

  2. Chargers SD has a lead over Cincy in the AFC record. If SD can beat Cincy at home in week 15 they will clinch this spot.

  3. Patriots The loss to Miami last week eliminated any chance of the Pats to avoid the Wild Card round but they have an easy schedule the rest of the way. Their key game will be in week 17 against the Jags who might be fighting for a playoff spot themselves.

  4. Bengals  Cincy has the toughest remaining schedule of the top 4. I can’t see them winning at the Vikes and then at the Chargers to win the 2nd spot. Instead, they will likely lose both and end up in the 4th spot even if they can beat the Jets.

  5. Broncos Denver will probably lose 2 out of their 3 games left winning only against Oakland but their hot start has kept them in the race. They will lose to the Colts and the Eagles but hang on by a fingernail to the 5th spot.

  6. Jags or Ravens The Jags have a 1 game lead in the overall standings and 2 in the Conference loss column over the Ravens but the Jags have to play Indy at home and NE on the road. I expect them to lose both giving them a 9-7 record with an 8-4 within the AFC. I project the Ravens to have the identical records in both. The playoff spot will be determined by net points within the conference.

NFC Seeds

  1. Saints The only threat to a 16-0 record for the Saints will be the home game against what by then should be a crumbling Cowboy team in week 15. Other than that and some new injuries, this Saints team could march through the schedule unbeaten. To insure home field throughout the playoffs, they will have to be prefect.

  2. Vikings If the Vikes get by Cincy next week at home, they should go the rest of the way without another loss. They will have to face the Saints in the playoffs at NO and that won’t be easy. Arizona showed the path to beating the Vikes last week by running multiple crossing patterns against the Vike zone.

  3. Cardinals only if Warner stays healthy The Cards are the toughest team to project because they look like world champs one week only to look just weak the next. But they have the easiest schedule with a game at SF and DT and games at home against the Rams and the Pack. Only the Packers are good enough to beat them with a healthy Warner but anything can happen.

  4. NFC (L)East team This had better be the Boys unless Coach Phillips wants to be unemployed and see Jones tear the team apart and put it back together crooked. The Eagles look like the team to beat for the 4th spot with a shot at sneaking into #3 if they win out. I project them at #4

  5. Packers The Pack could end up with the 3rd best record in the conference but can’t catch the Vikes for the division crown. They will be a tough out in the playoffs.

  6. The loser of the Eagles/Cowboys fight for the NFC Least title. This division has been a major disappointment this season. The Giants have a chance to overtake the Cowboys because they hold the tiebreaker.

Around the NFL

Weis is dialing for dollars.

Ex ND coach Weis is making the rounds of teams that might be looking for an Off Coordinator. Reportedly he visited the Bears yesterday and is scheduled to be in Cleveland today. There are rumors that he may be named OC this week replacing the often criticized Brian Daboll. Weis coached QB Quinn at ND and may be hired just as a consultant to help his development.

Cleveland owner Lerner backing off his “football Czar” talk.

After a particularly disgusting series of losses, Learner told the press he was going to look for an experienced NFL guy to oversee the operation. After a couple of games that were 2 bottle of Tums disgusting, he has not mentioned it since. There is a 40% chance that Mangini survives. The talk now is to hire a football guy that might be able to work with Mangini as HC without any input to the draft.

Eagles coach Reid to get a new contract.

Eagle management has recognized that Reid would be a top candidate for other NFL jobs opening after the season. They will give Reid a new deal.

That’s what I think. Tell me what you think.

MLB All Star weekend troubles.

What does everyone want to be named to but nobody wants to go to? Answer—the MLB All Star Game. Many players earn a bonus if they are named to the game only to find they are unable to participate because they are totally disabled by a potentially fatal case of hangnail.

The American League has no players entered in the home run derby. Even the HRD which has been the one shining star in MLB’s All Star Weekend has some serious rust on it. While every All Star game has challenges, MLB’s game seems to be the most endangered.

Who wouldn’t give up a weekend off at home with the family in the middle of July to spend a couple of days on the field at St. Louis in 100 degree 100% humidity? Evidently plenty of people wouldn’t. Even the NFL has decided that to get anyone to play in their post season game, they have to hold it in Hawaii. Baseball holds their game in the middle of the season. Maybe they should put a franchise in Hawaii too. At least the weather would be better.

Players are afraid of injury. Remember Pete Rose running over Cleveland’s Ray Fosse in the 1970 game? Fosse was never the same after that hit. It cost him his career.

What has happened to MLB’s summer classic is inter league play and too much television. When Ben Franklin and I were kids, we seldom saw our favorite players on out of market teams except for the all star game. Ben was always a bigger baseball fan than I was. But you can’t eliminate inter league play because it draws fans to the ballparks all over the league. Reductions in TV games won’t be happening any time soon either. Baseball is losing enough money as it is. So what’s to be done?

One thing that should NEVER have been done is to allow the game to determine home field advantage in the World Series. Can you even imagine how stupid it would be to allow the West winning the NBA game 128-126 to give the Lakers home field advantage in the NBA finals?

Nothing can be done. Baseball can add a skills competition like the NHL and NBA has but that will not draw the top names. The old timers game is about the only thing that will draw some viewers but not enough to make a difference. A rookie game with 3A all stars vs the current rookie crop might generate some interest and exposure for future stars of the game.

As it has in every other area, baseball will continue to do the same things the same way and expect better results. That won’t work. Just ask our elected representatives in Washington. They use that exact approach to the problems we face.

That’s what I think. Tell me what you think.
