I am very interested to see where Sanchez is in 5 years. Looks like he is a great guy, but I’m still not sold on him being a franchise QB or anywhere close to it…Time will tell

Crime: That is the beauty of Pro Football, time will definitely tell.

Great material Bill. I am a little worried about the Bengals picks. They have had character issues with players in the past but still continue to draft those players on the fringe of being trouble.

Everything I read about the Bengals 1st pick Andre Smith (OT Alabama) isn’t a bad kid but just VERY immature. A couple of “expert’s” final projections showed Michael Johnson (DE Georgia Tech) taken in the first round. He has never matched the hype he had coming into college let alone at the beginning of this season. But in the 3rd round, he was a great pick. I loved the picks of Rey Maualuga (ILB USC 2nd round) Chase Coffman (TE Missouri 3th round) Jonathan Luigs (OC Arkansas 4th round). All are outstanding values where they were picked. MAYBE, just maybe, the Bengals are turning things around.

My impressions of the first 2 days of the NFL Combine.

Big winners:

Mike Thomas WR Arizona was not a player that got a lot of attention before the combine. But that all changed when he ran a 4.31 40 yard dash. In addition he caught everything during the combine WR field work on Sunday including the attention of every scout of a team that needs a WR. At 5-8 195 lb. he reminded everyone of Steve Smith the all pro WR in Carolina.

Another WR that had a really good day Sunday was Brian Robiskie Ohio State. The 6-3 209 pound receiver ran a 4.49 40. Reportedly he did extremely well on the chalk board explaining coverages. He should because he is the son of Atlanta Falcons WR Terry Robiskie. Brian too did extremely well catching the ball including a spectacular one handed catch falling out of bounds on errant throw.

Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland ran the best WR time at 4.30 and had a 38.5 vertical jump. Because he is 6-2 210 he helped himself significantly. Heyward-Bey has moved up to the late first round.

Utah blows another hole in Airship B(C)S

The University of Alabama football team came into the 2009 Sugar Bowl believing they should have been part of the national championship game. They came out on the short end of a 31-17 loss to Utah. No one hated that result more than those college president pinheads that say that there is no need for a playoff in big boy college football.

There is a case to be made that Utah and not Florida should be in the championship game. To that end, let me provide some evidence:

Exhibit A: Florida allowed Alabama to score 20 points while Utah gave up only 17, 7 of which were the direct result of a turnover and 7 more on a punt return.

Exhibit B: Utah held the vaunted Tide running game to 31 yards net on 33 attempts. That is .9 yards a carry. Against national championship bound Florida, Bama also ran 33 time but for 136 yards and a 4.1 average including 2 tds.

Exhibit C: Utah forces 3 Bama turnovers where Florida only forced one.

Exhibit D: Utah held Bama to 5.7 yards per pass attempt while Florida allows 7.5 ypa against them.
