Maybe the Browns do listen to NNR!

NOTE: Today on NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I will disect the Browns first round draft picks. Monday we will do a complete review of the draft.

No Johnny Football. No Justin “I don’t want to tackle” Gilbert. The Browns took two solid guys that fill holes on the roster. Teams that are in the playoffs can go “best player available.” But the teams that make the top half of the ranking possible like the Browns need to fill holes with quality guys.

The primary need was someone to stop the run. Defensive tackle Danny Shelton was my top run stuffer inside. And trust me nobody at the draft said anything about him wearing a dress! He is a high energy player that leaves everything he has on the field. He splits the double team consistantly and makes tackles for loss. There is some concern about him being on the field in 3rd and long situations. But because the Browns were 32nd at stopping the run, that did not happen often last year. I have no doubt that he will be a very solid pick.

The 19th pick in my opinion was brilliant. There were … Read more at FryingPanSports

The NFL gave Columbus Browns and Bengal fans a gift.

NOTE: Monday on NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I projected a complete 1st round mock draft.

Last year the NFL forgot that Central Ohio fans of the Browns and Bengals have a unique disadvantage. Because both teams are in the AFC, the fans needed to get Sunday Ticket to see more than half of their favorite team’s games. While most people in Columbus believed it was a ploy to sell more subscriptions, the NFL doesn’t really need the money.

The late season network flexibility helped because Fox covered some games that would have been blacked out due to the local CBS affiliate WBNS having to choose one team or the other. There was some flack including a major complaint here on FPS.

The NFL took the Central Ohio issue into account this season with the schedule. Based on my calculations, Browns fans should be able to see 13 of the 16 regular season games. That is both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because the fans will be able to see their team. The curse is that the Browns still don’t have a starting quality QB on the roster.

The Bengal fans should … Read more at FryingPanSports

Today a double dose of NFL Draft on NNR Pod.

NFL Draft (2)

NOTE: Today on NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I talk about the possible undrafted free agents the Browns could sign and discuss some of the draft rumors floating around during “Silly Season.”

Then tonight on NNR I am joined by Ken Becks owner of http://www.1stdownscouting.com/ to talk our favorite players and what the Browns might do. The podcasts will be up on fryingpansports.com/radio-show .

There are two times when we hear people lie the most on TV. One is during a Presidential Election cycle. The other is the time leading up to the NFL Draft. Welcome to the “silly season.”

You can discount almost everything that most GM’s or head coaches say. They have no desire to let their fellow drafters or the public know what they are thinking. Usually after the draft, the fans wonder not what those in charge of their favorite team were thinking but if those drafting were capable of thought.

So don’t worry about what you hear. It won’t matter because they never do what they say. Exhibit A: the Browns spent $100K on a study to see which QB was most likely to succeed. The answer was Teddy Bridgewater. Then they moved Read more at FryingPanSports
