Ohio State continues to win in recruiting even with face-to-face recruiting suspended. Trey Sermon came out on social media to state he is joining the Buckeyes in 2020. Sermon is a 6’0″ 215 lbs. running back. Since Sermon is a graduate transfer he is eligible immediately as the Buckeyes reload last success last year.
Sermon was not able to visit Columbus before his decision due to Covid 19 restrictions. Sermon wants to enroll in May in Columbus. He will have a bachelors in Human Resources from Oklahoma when he arrives.
Trey Sermon and Ohio State a Perfect Fit
Head Coach Ryan Day was active in the NCAA transfer portal this off-season looking for a running back as both scholarship running backs from last season, Marcus Crowley and Master Teague III, were injured during Spring camp. Teague is reported to have a season ending Achilles injury. Steele Chambers was the only healthy option at tailback for Ohio State this Spring. Another option, Miyan Williams arrives over the Summer from Winton Woods Cincinnati.
The need for a running back was evident when JK Dobbins left the program early for a professional career. He is expected to be the first running back selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Sermon is excited to finish his college career in Ohio, where he scored his first touchdown. He knows he has to compete for the job but has a good relationship with Tony Alford, who he was recruited by coming out of high school in Marietta Georgia.
What Trey Sermon Means to Ohio State
At Oklahoma, Sermon rushed for over 2075 yards and scored 25 times. Receiving, he had 391 yards. He would have had to beat out Kennedy Brooks and Rhamondre Stevenson in the fall with the Sooners if he had not transferred. Ohio State wanted someone from a power program, with experience, in a similar type of offense. Sermon is the perfect fit.
Sermon was sidelined last season with a knee injury. He has one more month of recovery before completely healthy.
Ohio State is expected to compete for the 2020 National title once again with returning transfer Justin Fields at quarterback and all their off-season needs filled.
