The Cleveland Cavaliers have issues.

The Cavs have issues far beyond the just completed NBA draft. And the new head coach David Blatt is going to have to solve them before the Cavs are any closer to the playoffs.

Lack of offense – The O looked like something out of the stone age with Fred Flintstone playing the 3. The ball doesn’t move much at all let alone smoothly. Way too often under both previous coaches the possession was ruined by a bad shot at the buzzer.

Recruit, recruit, recruit – There will be a lot of holes in the Cavs roster if all the free agents leave. Blatt’s winning record should convince some of the FA to come back and resign. The recent positive comment by Kyrie Irving about Blatt are encouraging. The Cavs need him but also need to keep the better free agents on the team. The team also needs to be looking out for young FA that can help fill holes. The Spurs beat the Heat in part because they had a solid and productive bench. Blatt knows the foreign players and that should help bring some of them here to build a useful bench. While there is a lot of talk about LeBron James coming back, that is a long shot at best.

Can we talk?” – Team communication is critical. When the shooting guard is not talking to the point guard winning is not easy. Blatt has to get the team to work together or get rid of those that do not play nice with others.

The Bennett effect – No question that the selection of Anthony Bennett cost former GM Chris Grant his job as well it should have. But Blatt has to figure out what to do with Bennett and how to make him effective. That won’t be easy. Bennett came in last year injured and out of shape. The loss of preseason work in 2013 hurt him. But he needs to become an asset rather than the liability he was last year.

That is what I think. Tell us what you think.
