Accurate Golf Lob Shots

The golf lob shot is usually a short shot of no more than 50 yards at most, and is usually employed to get the ball high very quickly, often to get it over an obstacle of some kind. It is a shot that can be used in a sand bunker, for example, where you need to lift the ball forcefully and drive it towards the hole, all in one shot, though perhaps a sand wedge is actually more useful in such a situation. A lob wedge is generally used to gain greater accuracy than a full iron shot.

In your set up with a golf lob shot, aim to the left of your target. The reason for doing this is that the ball will spin towards the right upon landing on the green, thereby cancelling out the original left of target attitude. At least, that’s the theory. If you want to add extra height to the ball, say, to lift it over a particularly high obstacle, then open the clubface more before striking the shot.

The swing is important if you hope to get a fairly accurate golf lob. Start by setting your weight fairly evenly … Read more at FryingPanSports

High Profile Sponsorships Gone Wrong

As we all know too well, the world of sport, motorsport and celebrity is one that revolves completely around money. Tiger Woods

Mr Tiger Woods – that’s not his real name either, Google that! – is, or was, one of the most respected athletes of our time. He completely revolutionised the game of golf when he came on the scene in 1997 and, for well over a decade, dominated the sport with his incredible shot-making and will to win. One problem, though, the guy liked his women, and a that love of the opposite sex came back to haunt him when a series of unfortunate events lead to the media finding out Woods had been cheating on his wife for years with quite a lot of women.

The news shook the world, disappointed millions of fans and surprised even … Read more at FryingPanSports

Golf’s Rory McIlroy’s Success Includes Strength of Character

It’s said that Rory McIlroy has the right “stuff” of character; both humbleness and confidence.

There are high hopes and great expectations from Padraig Harrington and Greg Norman. One is that McIlroy just might beat Jack Nicklaus’ who had 18 majors and the other is to be the replacement after the sad loss of Steve Ballesteros. In a dignified manner at the Masters, McIlroy handled his debacle on Sunday, showed his mettle while speaking publicly about Tiger Woods’ ebbing game and the humanitarian trip he took to Haiti; when all the while, he could have been preparing for the U.S. Open. Being there in Haiti gave him the dose of perspective that he felt he needed.

His awe-inspiring performance at the U.S. Open seems to be over-flowing with the assurance of many more majors ahead.  With a flawless four days of golf, finishing Sunday afternoon at Congressional and shattering the Open’s record, McIlroy, is defying the logic in the toughest of tests in golf with a “2-under 69”.

What a wonderful glimpse the world was allowed, as this young man of 22 from Northern Ireland, fell into the proud arms of his father. Gerry McIlroy, who took on three jobs … Read more at FryingPanSports

How to Correct a Golf Slice

Few things are more agitating to a golfer than having to deal with frequent slice shots. You may have the perfect set of clubs or the best golf GPS system money can buy, but if your shots are curving to the right you are not going to be happy with your score at the end of the round. Fortunately, learning how to correct a stubborn slice is not as hard as some players make it out to be. It does, however, require a little know how and practice.

Most slice shots are caused by an incorrect swing path. When the face of the club is even slightly open it will cause the ball to spin and go off path. Having a weak grip is another cause of slicing. A weaker grip forces you to not hit the ball dead on when you make contact.

Since a weak grip is a common cause of a slice, you should try to correct this possibility first. A weak grip is not actually how tight you are holding the driver, but is actually when you are holding the club at too much of a counter-clockwise angle. To correct this, adjust your grip more to … Read more at FryingPanSports
