NFL TV Ratings; A Sign Of Things To Come?

Sunday for many people is a special day. Filled with family, friends, and possibly some yelling at the television. Football has been a large part of people’s Sunday traditions, but with things being the way they have been lately, many are wondering when the focus will return to actual football. It seems less has been made of the game, and more is being made about what President Trump has tweeted out about something or which players have decided to take a knee for the National Anthem.

Regardless of your personal feelings on these subjects it does come across as slightly foreboding when you couple that with the fact that across the whole board NFL’s TV ratings are down. Some might say that this is attributed to the ongoing spectacle sideshow that the NFL has turned into. Commissioner Goodell has not ended the stalemate with the player’s union about proper procedure for pre-game policy, and continually rides the fence on the issue. This has further dragged on with President Trump now taking to the keyboard to weigh in his two cents worth.

The cold hard facts remain though that viewer ratings are down for every game except for the … Read more at FryingPanSports

Brock Osweiler Starts For The Browns

Brock Osweiler announced as Browns starter for the preseason opening match versus Saints

Brock Osweiler is set to start the preseason opening match on Thursday evening, versus the Saints at First Energy Stadium, according to Browns manager Hue Jackson.

The second man will be Cody Kessler, followed by Kevin Hogan and DeShone Kizer.

This does not mean though, that Osweiler will begin the season opening match versus the Steelers on September 10. Kizer could well end up doing that instead.

Jackson said that, at this point in the quarterback assessment process, he will have Osweiler start in the Thursday preseason opening match versus the Saints. While many factors are taken into account during the assessment, it is ultimately about running the offense effectively and efficiently, Jackson noted. Jackson went on to say that he wants his starters to have the ability to do this in all circumstances.

Osweiler has not really got any reps in the first team, so this will provide him with that opportunity. Everyone is looking forward to watching how he fairs in the limelight during the week and versus the Saints.

Speculation is rife that the Browns might be attempting to groom … Read more at FryingPanSports

Drafting QB Kizer was a good First step BUT…

DeShone Kizer was my top QB in a very weak class.  Clearly what happened to the Notre Dame program had a lot more to do with very bad coaching, even worse recruiting, and a brain-dead staff than what Kizer did or didn’t do.  But there are a bunch of issues that the Browns will have to address.

The first issue is Kizer’s mechanics.  A combination of a very pathetic O line, the lack of a consistent run game, and a group of wide receivers that couldn’t catch a cold standing naked in a sleet storm on Lake Michigan, his mechanics went south in a hurry.  But we saw him in 2015 and he as much better.

The question is can the Browns coaching staff get him back to his 2015 throwing motion and footwork?

The personnel department did a good job fixing the O line issues (except for RT) in free agency.  That was a good move because the O line in the draft was below average.  Kizer or whoever starts for the Browns will have better protection than last year.  That should also help the running game.  But this will be as difficult a test for the coaching staff … Read more at FryingPanSports
