E.J. Liddell Receives Threats after Ohio State Loss

E.J. Liddell

When Ohio State entered the 2021 NCAA tournament, many thought they had a chance to go all the way. This team had a successful regular season, sometimes looking like one of the country’s best teams. Although they had a fair share of losses in the regular season, they competed in what was considered the toughest conference all season long.

Just a few days after selection Sunday, Ohio State found their season over as they lost to Oral Roberts in overtime. Many believed that they had a pretty favorable draw, but they could never get going against the 15th seed. They were lucky to get to overtime in the first place, but losing in a tough one was particularly devastating.

After the loss, there was a lot of backlash. In particular, Ohio State’s EJ Liddell came out and discussed some of the threats and hateful messages he received after the loss. Despite having a great season and playing fairly well in the game, he took a lot of the negativity due to how things ended up.

NCAA Basketball Class of 2021 Prospect Logan Duncomb

There has been a flourishing, potential laden big man crushing it in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio for Archbishop Moeller High School all season long. It appears he is on track to become a valuable member of a prominent school’s core when the 2021 NCAA season rolls around. What are the latest developments with Logan Duncomb in regards to his recruiting process, and what kind of talent could he turn out to be?

Who is Logan Duncomb

Standing at 6’9″ and weighing in at 225 lbs., Logan Duncomb is an athletic, bruising center. According to 247sports.com he is currently the 80th ranked player nationally, 14th ranked center, and 3rd ranked player for the 2021 class from the state of Ohio. Duncomb has been making waves at Archbishop Moeller high, dominating in all the areas a traditional big man should.

A 4-star blue-chip recruit, Logan runs the floor well, is a solid passer for a front court player, and plays tenacious defense. He is extraordinarily skilled on the block with his back to the basket on the offensive end of the floor. Think a pint-size version of Rik Smits or Arvydas Sabonis. Duncomb’s mid-range jump shot is still … Read more at FryingPanSports

Ohio State Basketball adds transfer Justice Sueing from Cal

Justice Sueing transferred from California to the Buckeyes. Head Coach Chris Holtmann informed everyone of the addition of Sueing, a 6’7″ forward originally from Honolulu Hawaii. Sueing posted his transfer destination on May the 10th on Twitter.

Sueing played two years for the Golden Bears and will have two years of eligibility with Ohio State after red-shirting this upcoming season to comply with undergraduate NCAA transfer rules.

Cal had few bright spots last season finishing 8-23 overall, but Sueing was one. The Golden Bears completed Pac-12 play 3-15 with their head coach Wyking Jones being let go by the school after the season. Sueing entered the transfer portal shortly thereafter.

He arrives in Columbus following a productive two seasons in Berkley. He led his team in scoring (14.3 points per game), steals (1.7) and rebounds (6/game) last year. As a true freshman, Sueing had 13.8 points/game and 5.4 boards/game.

He also brings the ability to get free-throws, something Ohio State has lacked. In 2018/2019 he averaged 5.3 attempts per match. Only Kaleb Wesson average more last season for the Buckeyes.

Sueing will become eligible at the right time for OSU. Andre Wesson will graduate at the end … Read more at FryingPanSports

My thoughts on this week in sports

Dorsey 1 Jackson 0

Jackson wanted AJ McCarren but was over ruled. Dorsey clearly has the ear of Browns ownership that allowed him to sign Tyrod Taylor over Jackson’s objections. That was a good move because Taylor helped the Bills get to the playoffs. The book on McCarren has mostly blank pages.

The Cavs have fallen and can’t get up.

Having lost 2 games to the Clippers then to the lowly Lakers, their chances of getting to the NBA finals don’t look good. That is hard for me to say because at one time I was a part owner of the Caves when they were a publicly held company.

The Buckeye’s basketball team got disted by the NCAA.

The “New Criteria” for ranking is supposed to devalue the last 10 games. That did not apply to the Bucks. The team stumbled badly late in the season and lost the 1st playoff game in the Big 10 Tourney. The NCAA gave them a 5th seed and a very bad matchup.

Cavs don’t need a stinking Defense, they have it now!

NOTE:  On NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I discussed the NFL news of the day and a current topic of interest on fryingpansports.com/radio-show.

During the 2 games in Cleveland the Fans were chanting “Defense-Defense.”  The players looked at each other wondering what Defense was.

Defense has been missing all season.  While the regular season is one thing, it will be difficult in the playoffs for the Cavs to win with a D that ranked 20th overall.  Playoff games are half court affairs that depend on Defense, rebounding and free throws as much as anything.  Cavs fans had hoped that the team would “flip a D switch” and become the type of squad they were last year when they ranked 4th in points allowed.  That defensive effort helped them win the title last season.

The problem is the team does not have enough defensive players.  They signed a rim protector (Andrew Bogit) but he lasted just 53 seconds before he was hurt.  James is a solid defender but that is about all the Cavs have.  JR Smith is no longer a factor on D and Shumpert is no factor on either end of the floor.

If Black lives matter, why don’t those killed in Chicago matter?

Colin Kaepernick
Black lives matter
Black lives matter

Understand that I believe any death of an innocent person is tragic.  But I think that Colin Kaepernick and others (black lives matter) are wrong about what is preventing them from standing at the National Anthem.  If they were being honest, they would realize that the number of police shootings of innocent Black men is very small compared to the number of Black men, women and children gunned down in our inner cities like Chicago.

The number of killings of Blacks in Chicago so far this year has topped the total of last year in just over 9 months.  By far the majority of killings of Blacks in Chicago and other major cities in the US are done by other Blacks.  If Kaepernick and others were protesting that, I would be supporting them.  Those people are the ones that are suffering the loss of members of their families.  Those are the families I feel sorry for.

There are many reasons why that is happening in our major cities but that is not the point here.  The point is this—Black lives do matter no matter who causes the death.  That is something that I believe every American could … Read more at FryingPanSports
