Ohio State vs. Oregon: Controversial Call, Record Viewership, and Fan Reactions

Controversial Call Costs Ohio State Victory

In a nail-biting game that ended with a 32-31 loss to Oregon, Ohio State faced several highs and lows. Man, that game against Oregon was intense! Can you believe that call on Jeremiah Smith? Offensive pass interference?! Joel Klatt even said it was bogus. We had a real shot at winning, but that call pushed us out of field goal range. Heartbreaker, right? What a ride. This penalty moved the Buckeyes out of field goal range, dashing their hopes of snatching victory.

Record-Breaking Viewership

Bummer about the loss, but hey, the game was a total hit! More people tuned in on NBC and Peacock than any other regular season Big Ten game on prime-time since way back in 2008 – that’s like 10.2 million viewers! Think about it, that’s more people than watched Penn State vs. Ohio State back in the day, which was nuts! Even though we didn’t win, it’s awesome to see so much love for the Buckeyes!

Fan Frustration Towards Ryan Day

The defeat sparked a wave of criticism towards head coach Ryan Day. Although he is somewhat boastful of his stats against unranked opponents, the inability to defeat top ranked teams is giving rise to doubts as to whether he is a true leader, and there are now increasing pressures to remove him.

Fans of Ohio State are somewhat anxious about Ryan Day’s statistics against top 5 teams. Day has taken two wins and six losses to ranked in top five teams since he was named the head coach. This includes losses to teams like Clemson, Alabama, and now Oregon.

Coach Day has done a great job overall, and he’s undefeated against weaker teams. But when he plays the top teams, things get tough. That makes some fans really frustrated. The loss to Oregon was a big blow, and now some fans are saying it’s time for a change.

Injury Woes

The situation for Ohio State is a bit worse as their tackle, Josh Simmons, the person that plays in the left side of the offensive line is injured and it remains to be seen if he will be able to play at all. This will make it more difficult for Ohio to obtain victories in the future.

Impact on Rankings

Now that the Buckeyes lost, everyone’s talking about how much their ranking is going to drop. Fans and experts are trying to guess how far down they’ll go.
