Ohio State fans are familiar with receiver Jameson Williams who came to Ohio State and was third on the depth chart behind Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave but left for Alabama before the 2021 season. “Going into Ohio State, I thought that was going to be my spot,” Williams told Bama Insider on what he felt when he first went to Columbus Ohio.
Williams Not a Key Part of the Offense at Ohio State
“I was looking forward to the season at Ohio State, but they didn’t use me the way I thought they would use me. I think my role was different than what I really wanted it to be. I didn’t feel like I was standing out like I felt like I would standing out.”I started looking at my situation and talking with my parents about my situation and I felt like I made my decision (to leave) based on my circumstances. Me and coach Meyer had a talk and he said, “Hey, it looks like you’re thinking about transferring.” He said that he would release me if that was what I wanted to do. We went from there and that’s when I started thinking more seriously about what I wanted to do.”

Ohio State has recruited year after year of top high school at the wide receiver position. “I felt like the depth chart was too stacked,” Williams explained when asked why he left. “With my role, I felt like it wasn’t going to be that rewarding. I want to be the guy, not the guy that comes in second or third or whatever. I’m not really trying to play backup for four years.”
Why Jameson Williams Chose Alabama
Williams said he came to Alabama for the same reasons anyone would. He wants to play for a national championship and be on top of college football. He can feel something really special being there. Williams also said keeping up with former teammates and players from Alabama has been a major reason he considered the program.
Alabama Teammates Excited about Jameson Williams
Slade Bolden, one of Alabama’s fastest receivers, has had the pleasure of lining up alongside Williams since he first arrived on campus and he’s excited about what he can bring to the team.
“He’s a good player,” Bolden said on Tuesday. “I like him a lot, we work out at the same place and we play 2-on-2 in the gym all the time. He has great hands, he runs well, I’m excited for him to play here at Alabama.
“He’s fast,” Bolden said. “He’s legit. You can’t compare him to nobody on the field because he’s fast that you probably can’t even see him. He’s that quick. He is a big target, too. He makes everything look easy. In practice, he makes everything look easier than it is.
“He’s going to be a great receiver for us this season” Bolden said. “With his speed and his size, I feel like that’s something that we don’t really have. He’s going to be a great asset for us now.”
