Now that the summer has arrived, it is time to get your little ones involved in the local or community swim league. Swim leagues are often associated by county, so if you want to get your kids enrolled in a swim league for the summer, be sure to look online, as most of the county websites will have information regarding swim leagues. Another way to find a swim league for your children is to visit your local or community public pool. More often than not, the public pool will have a swim league for children of different ages.

Adult swim leagues also exist. Your best bet to find a swim league for yourself is to research online. Similar to swimming leagues for kids, each county will provide information regarding adult swim leagues in which you can participate. Aquatic centers and health and wellness organizations like the YMCA may have adult leagues for you to join. If you live in a small district or county, it may be harder for you to find adult leagues, as most leagues will cater to more heavily populated cities and areas. Do not let that deter you, all it really means is you may have to drive farther than anticipated to find a swim league, but if you are passionate about swimming, then this should not bother you.

Be careful, as swimming injuries can occur, especially if you are older or have not participated in swimming activities in quite awhile. For children, common swimming injuries result in “swimmer’s ear” which is a term for a type of ear infection. For adults, joint and muscle pains can occur, usually around the shoulder, elbow, back and neck regions of the body. It is recommended that you consult a doctor to make sure you are in the right physical condition for a swim league, and if you are given the green light, then enjoy yourself to the max.

Why I Prefer Not to Use Creatine Sports Supplements When Weight Training

Ronnie Coleman 8 x Mr Olympia 2009 Melbourne, ...

Many of my contemporaries in the gym use a variety of legal sports supplements to help with their weight training and muscle mass gain.  I have used them in the past but now am completely committed to training and building up my muscle with no supplements.  I feel a lot better for doing so and have the peace of mind that I have achieved my muscle growth completely naturally with no artificial aids or sports supplements.

One of the most popular aids to weight training is something called the Creatine sports supplement.  Creatine helps to increase your muscle gain, but my experiences of using Creatine sports supplements have been negative.  I didn’t notice any visible muscle improvements in over three months of use, plus had some unpleasant side effects to using Creatine which included stomach cramps and frequent trips to the toilet.

If you are going to use a Creatine sports supplement then I would advise you always go and have a consultation at your local medical center.  They will be able to tell you if it is a good idea for you to take Creatine or not.  They will also help you look at other body building favourites including Nitric Oxide supplements and whether or not your body will be compatible or not.

Nitric Oxide supplements are popular because they give you that feeling of being really pumped up when you leave the gym, but as with the Creatine sports supplement, I prefer a natural look to my body – and have achieved the physique I am really happy with through pure motivation and hard work.

By advice to any budding weight lifter or body builder who is just starting out would be to try and attain your goals with sheer will power – although sports supplements are very popular in the gym and do work for a lot of guys, there is nothing better than attaining muscle without any help apart from pumping weights all day – give it a go and see how you get on.

How to Correct a Golf Slice

The putt by a right-handed golfer.

Few things are more agitating to a golfer than having to deal with frequent slice shots. You may have the perfect set of clubs or the best golf GPS system money can buy, but if your shots are curving to the right you are not going to be happy with your score at the end of the round. Fortunately, learning how to correct a stubborn slice is not as hard as some players make it out to be. It does, however, require a little know how and practice.

Most slice shots are caused by an incorrect swing path. When the face of the club is even slightly open it will cause the ball to spin and go off path. Having a weak grip is another cause of slicing. A weaker grip forces you to not hit the ball dead on when you make contact.

Since a weak grip is a common cause of a slice, you should try to correct this possibility first. A weak grip is not actually how tight you are holding the driver, but is actually when you are holding the club at too much of a counter-clockwise angle. To correct this, adjust your grip more to the right if you are right handed, or more to the left if you are left handed. Try to keep your grip only tight enough to maintain control of the driver. Your arms and wrist should not be tense as you swing.

An improper backswing can also wreak havoc on your shots. When you pull back, your driver should be over your shoulder and not over your head. A good way to practice this is to pay attention to where your left arm (if you are right handed) is going. If your arm is crossing your chest you likely have a good backswing. Try not to let the position of your wrists change during your backswing, as this can produce errant shots.

Oftentimes you can correct a golf slice by simply increasing the speed of your swing. If you believe your grip is correct you should try this next. You should also pay attention to your stance. Try not to bend over, standing straight with your knees just slightly bent. Your feet should be spread to approximately the same width as your shoulders. Never take your eye off the ball and try to clear your mind before you swing.

You may need to practice these things over and over until you are certain that you have corrected any errors. A slice could be caused by just one or several of these mistakes. The good news is that with practice you can correct a golf slice and move on to playing the best rounds of golf you’ve ever played.

Running Tips To Improve Safety And Efficiency

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

a "low profile" sole provides a grea...

Image via Wikipedia

Many people are unprepared when they start running so their exercise regime only lasts a few weeks. Often their bodies begin to hurt because they have a faulty running technique. This article will outline a few simple running tips which will help you avoid these problems. You will then be able to run safely and regularly, without having to give up because of an easily avoidable injury.

Firstly you should try not to land on your heel. This is a common mistake which is easy to fix. The heel is not cushioned so when you land on it, it puts unnecessary stress on the rest of the leg. This is the tip which you should make sure you implement first of all, as it will enable you to run faster while putting less stress on the shins and knees, and can help to prevent shin splints. You should also try to avoid stretching your stride as this can make you run very inefficiently. Running like this pushes your leg away from your centre of balance which means you have to place extra force on your hip to allow your body to catch up with your front foot.

Another beginners’ running tip is to maintain a consistent step turnover rate so that your muscles can work to their full potential. The toughness of a run is not determined by the rate of stepping, but by the force you exert with each step. So the speed at which you run is relative to the force with which you push off the ground. If you can incorporate these running tips for beginners into your routine you will reduce the risk of injury while running in a more efficient manner. Your muscles will be used to their potential, and with the addition of some good quality running shoes you will avoid many of the common overuse injuries found in novice runners.

Water filter

Although hiking can be a wonderful and exciting experience, there are also some challenges that can be met along the way in engaging in this activity. One major problem is being able to gain access to drinking water that is clean and safe. Yes it is true that there are numerous bodies of water out there such as rivers, ponds, lakes and streams. However, these water sources are not completely safe. There is a great possibility that they have organisms and other contaminants in them. Due to this reason, a water filter could be a great piece of camping gear. Do you know how to use one? If not, here is a guide that you can follow on how to use hiking water filters

Before anything else, you must first prepare the following; a toothbrush, iodine tablets and water filter. When all of these are ready, what you need to do first is to select a filter. Make sure that the filter you bought is of good quality and is one that has the ability to fight water parasites and other substances. Choose one that has a 1 micron or less pore size. Now if you already have the water filter in your hands get the manual and read the instructions. It would really help a lot if you become familiar with the instructions in it. Bring this manual with you to your trip.

Once the water supply is already nearby, get some water and place it inside your filter. Be sure to use clear running water. However, if this type of water is hard to find, just let the debris in the water gather first. Once this is done, scrub them off. It is only normal that your filter would experience some clogging so don’t worry if this happens. You can now use the toothbrush to help you in accomplishing this task. Wash your filter in order to ensure that it is already clean once you use it again. Always use these steps when using hiking water filters and you will do just fine.
