Choosing The Right Practice Batting Cage

Many parents, coaches, amateur adult players and pros wonder what the best dimensions are when they are looking to buy a practice batting cage. Most good batting cages are a minimum of 70 feet in length, 12 feet in height and 14 feet in width. This allows both left-handed and right-handed batters to use the cage in comfort without having to move the plate around. Players also don’t have to worry about injury on the back-swing or about damaging the net during practice.

When you want to choose the right size for mostly personal and family use, measure the distance between the plate and the mound for the different people who will be using it. You don’t have to make this a complicated process either. If you start to feel overwhelmed, just ask your customer care agent for recommendations. Pro mound to plate distances are often as small as six inches. For amateurs, you might want a bit more distance, like anywhere from 38 inches to 60 inches.

For baseball and softball batting cages, 70 feet is a good length. This will give you room at the pitcher’s end, where you can store equipment like ball carts, machines and portable mounds; and give you a lot of room to comply with the distance regulations for space between the batter and the pitcher. Standard width range is good at 12 to 14 feet.

For kids and players shorter than 6 feet tall, you can go with a smaller width of 12 feet. However, just keep in mind that with teens and junior high school aged players, arm lengths can vary significantly, and bat lengths can as well.

All Round Better Rounds

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Most golfers are keen to have the best equipment available on the market to pursue their sporting passion.  This habit not only adds up financially, but also in weight which can effect your game / fitness.

The game itself is popular with people of all ages, genders and backgrounds, with the number of people playing consistently high. Every sector of society will be feeling the financial pressures at the moment, none more than those who are trying to enjoy retirement. Apart from having more leisure time in retirement, the game provides social interaction and a good level of exercise.  One of biggest downsides to the game is; the additional coinage spent getting the equipment you really want, not the equipment you have to ‘tolerate’.

One of the necessary areas of luxury is your club horse. By that I mean your golf trolley of choice. So, what’s on offer?

Push, Pull or Stomp

  • Push, or pull, golf trolleys are the cheapest option and although they do reduce the impact of that hefty bag of kit, they still require a reasonable amount of strength.  Personal preference will be a part when selecting a push/pull variety, although many individuals find it easier to pull the trolleys.  The downside to this type of trolley is that pulling or pushing can impact on your back and arms – both crucial for perfecting your swing.
  • Electric golf buggies.  You don’t have to be a President or a Pope to afford one of these, but normally people choose to hire not buy.  While they will remove all of the physical hard work from golf this is also their main downside.  Golf does provide an great moderate intensity type of exercise – important for all players but perhaps more so for older golfers.  If you’re chugging around the course on a buggy, you aren’t really getting the best out of the health benefits the game has to offer.
  • Electric golf trolleys.  These combine all the best bits of both push/pull golf trolleys and golf buggies.  Electrically powered, they take all of the unnecessary strain out of the game, keeping you fresh, alert and keeping your back and muscles in good condition, while leaving you free to reap the benefits to your health that golf can offer.

Fit for Purpose

So, should you rush out and buy an electric golf trolley today?  This is of course down to personal preference.  Ultimately for regular players, they are probably the best solution to the problem of heavy bags of golfing equipment, but don’t rush to buy one.  For infrequent players it may make more sense to start of with a standard push/pull type of trolley.  For more serious and more frequent players an electric trolley will make sense and should also be considered as an investment.  They should take the burden for many years to come, so shop around and make your decision carefully.

Stick With Wisdom

Established suppliers with a longer trading history are a good place to start, not only will they provide quality equipment and accessories but will, for the most part, be able to offer good after sales and service, from experts in the industry.  Most trolleys will come with a range of additional fittings and fixtures, from drinks holders to umbrella holders – important in the UK game, at least.  Think about your own needs and game as well – electric golf trolleys are battery powered and the batteries are designed for different lengths of course, while some are more suitable for more challenge terrain.  With the right trolley you should find that the worst of the strain is taken out of the game, leaving you fresh physically and mentally to perform at your best.

Golf is a popular game, with a number of health benefits and very few risks.  To get the most out of the game electric golf trolleys can reduce the excess baggage you need to carry – while allowing you to focus on the game.

Skateboards Vs Longboards

Skateboarding is one of the most amazing thrill rides that anyone can do. Most people see skateboards as one large lump of sports, and when purchasing a board and deck most people just assume that all boards are made equally and are meant for the same thing. If you have been looking towards purchasing a new ride to get in on the action, you’ll have to know the difference between a street deck and a longboard. There are completely different options as they perform different types of tasks. Consider the following differences between both types of boards to make the ultimate decision when you’re about to purchase your next skateboarding product.

First and foremost we’ll discuss longboards. Longboarding is a popular activity that transcends the initial invention of the skateboard in the 1970’s. The longboard is meant for cruising through town, riding down hills, and pushing less than any other type of board. These specialized boards are longer, have larger trucks and wheels, and are easier to learn on than other boards. In most instances, you will not have to push hard on these options as one push will have you gliding down the road with relative ease. The wheels are usually softer, the bearings faster, and the turn radius much looser than traditional boarding options that you will find. These are not meant for half pipes, tricks, or anything fancy. If you’re looking for transportation, this is a great option to look into. They might cost more than the average option, but it will be well worth the investment.

The second type of board you can purchase is your standard street skateboard. These types have double kicktails at the nose and the tail of the board, and are usually no longer than 32 inches long. They also have a deep concave in the interior of the board, utilize smaller trucks, and harder wheels. These boards are meant for those that are looking to ride their boards for more than transportation. You’ll find that there is a higher learning curve on these, and if you’re planning on doing any tricks, you’ll expect to take some major spills. Street skateboards are the only boards that professional skateboarders ride in contests, magazines, and any other form of promotional media. They are made of harder woods, glued together with tight epoxies, and are meant to take major impact. The same impact on a longboard, for instance, would snap the wood fast. The street boards are meant to take serious impact, with some boards even having an interior lining of titanium. All street boards come in 7 to 8 plys of wood and are meant for tricks more than transport.

At this point, considering both options above, you should have a clearer picture of what kind of board you’ll need. If you’re not into tricks or flying off stairs or rails, go for the street style. If you want transportation and easier learning curve, go with a longer board.

When Im not boarding I like to blog about medical assistant training on my healthcare blog.

When you decide that you want to play soccer, you should take the time that you need to be sure that you are safe.  There are a lot of people that get injured playing soccer and you want to take the time that you need to research how you can ensure that you are preventing soccer injuries.

First, you should be sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to be wise about the way that you are going to prepare for a game.  Whether you are playing indoor soccer, outdoor soccer or street soccer you want to be sure that you are ready for the game.

To ensure that your body is ready you will want to make sure that you can stretch out your muscles.  When you are stretching you want to make sure that you are also warming up your muscles so that they are able to stretch as far as they can before you start playing.

Soccer is full of quick movements that can be very detrimental to tight muscles.  Make sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to stretch out all of your muscles so that you can be sure you are able to move quickly without hurting yourself.

As you are playing soccer you will use a very specific set of muscles.  Throughout the game, you may find that you are not only using the specified set of muscles but that you also end up using all of the muscles throughout your body as you are running, twisting and turning to make a goal.

To ensure that you are able to minimize your chances of being injured, you should be sure that you are warming up.  As you stretch your muscles you will also want to lightly jog around the entire field so that you can get an increased amount of blood flow into your muscles.

Second, you should be sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to dress when you play soccer.  There are a lot of people that do not realize how they are to suit up to ensure that they are safe and those that are playing with them and around them are safe.

Make sure that you take time to find a good pair of soccer cleats.  There are a lot of people that have a hard time understanding that when they are shopping for soccer cleats they will want to find the cleats that are molded or ribbed instead of the cleats that have the screw in rips.

When you are using the screw in tips you will find that you have a higher risk of injury.  The only time that these tips are going to be more beneficial than risky is when you are playing on a wet field or even a field that has tall grass and is being slippery because there is no traction.

Third, you should be sure that you are wearing shin guards.  When you are shopping for shin guards you have to make sure that you take the time that you need to find the protection for your shins that will ensure you are able to play safely without running into any problems.

As you are playing with your shin guards you have to make sure that you understand that people are going to be kicking your shins.  Throughout the soccer game you will find that people will accidentally or purposely hit your shins with their cleats and you will need the proper protection.

Fourth, you should be sure that you take the time that you need to be sure that you are wearing soccer socks.  The soccer socks that you are going to wear will ensure that the shin guards you are wearing will not slip all over your leg or even fall off when you are playing.

Make sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to be wise about the way that you are preparing for each soccer game.  As you are wise about the proper preparation for your soccer games you can be sure that you are as safe as you can possibly be.

Playing street soccer is a great way to work out and keep your body healthy. Take time to play soccer consistently so that you can be sure you are enjoying your exercise.
