Joe Haden Reveals His Next Move

Joe Haden commits to Steelers for three years, $27,000,000 and will play Browns in opening game

Now, this ought to be a fascinating opener.

Joe Haden, the Pro Bowl cornerback, released by the Browns on Wednesday, has agreed a three year contract with arch rivals the Steelers. This deal is worth $27,000,000, including $7,000,000 assured for this season, reports profootballtalk.com.

No longer do the Browns have to pay the $4,000,000 Haden was due to receive from them this season.

On September 10, the Browns will play hosts to the Steelers at the FirstEnergy Stadium. This particular run of events should add some extra fascination to the match.

“A tough competitor” according to receiver Antonio Brown. “He is a ruthless opponent. Certainly someone you need to be prepared and ready for. He is quick and strong”.

Originally, Haden was meant to enroll with the Steelers on Wednesday evening in Charlotte, NC, which is where the Panthers and Steelers play tomorrow evening in the preseason finale.

Released by the Browns on Wednesday morning, Haden could enroll with his new team after 16:00, and his next deal was revealed within minutes.

Adam Schefter, from ESPN, said that Haden had been offered … Read more at FryingPanSports

Fishing Kayaks Are Great Alternatives To Motorized Vessels

Kayak Fishing at Okmulgee Lake

Fishing from a kayak is a great alternative to using motorized fishing vessels. Kayak fishing is a very popular hobby in certain parts of the country such as North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. Part of the appeal of using a kayak is that you do not need to worry about the maintenance expense compared to owning and operating a diesel or gasoline powered fishing boat. There are also less rules and regulations because kayaks are not motorized. You do not need to obtain a boating license, or expense permits for the purpose of kayak fishing.

Kayak fishing can be done in canals, lakes, ponds, swamps and other types of tributaries. In certain parts of the country people also fish from the ocean as well with Kayaks. Saltwater fishing is also very popular because of the more diverse fish species in ocean environments. If you haven’t tried fishing kayaks before, it can be a great way to spend a day relaxing on the open water.

One of the best ways to experience kayak fishing is by joining a fishing vacation tour. This is especially convenient if you do not have your own equipment. Kayak fishing … Read more at FryingPanSports

Who SHOULD the Browns draft?

Browns

The first round of the Draft is Thursday so it is time for my “fearless” predictions of what the Browns won’t do in the draft.

Round 1: No. 7 overall There has been some talk about the Browns trading with the 49ers for their 13th & 17th picks. The value of this pick is 1500. The 13+17 equal 2100. To do the deal the Browns would have to give their 2nd pick (#38 520) and their last pick in the 3rd (#92 132). They would likely get an early 5th round back as part of the deal. In short, I doubt this deal gets made.

Another rumor is that they would trade up to 5 and give the Chiefs 7 and #72 in the third round. I don’t like this deal because I don’t see that much difference between Berry and Thomas. I would take Thomas and save the 3rd round choice.

S Earl Thomas Texas The Browns need a FS badly. It is looking like KC will take Berry or Thomas at 5 and if they pass on him the Seahawks might grab one or the other at 6. If Berry is there, they would take him. However on … Read more at FryingPanSports

Tuesday Morning QB for 9/29/09

football

College football

As I said last week, Mississippi was rated based on a 1 point win over Florida in 08. A lot of the ranking is based on the projection of QB Jevan Snead being a top player. So far he has been much less than advertised. He has great arm strength but that does not make a great QB. It really helps if you have some idea of where the pass is going. A completion rate under 50% is not good enough. He lacks decision making skills to be a top draft choice in 2010. We will see how he develops.

The Alabama defense is better than advertised. We saw the Arkansas offense run wild on Georgia but it was totally controlled by the Bama D line. Alabama is the team to beat in the SEC West. Given the struggles of the Florida O, the SEC Championship game should be better than last year.

Penn State’s loss to Iowa was not surprising. PS has been over rated along with most of the Big 10 for several years. But their loss hurt Ohio State badly. OSU’s chance to get back into the top 2 or 3 in the rankings … Read more at FryingPanSports

What did we learn from weekend 2 in football?

football

In the Pros

Carolina and Delhomme are both very over rated. “DelInt” threw 4 picks against the Eagles. All the experts picked the Panthers to win but as I predicted here on Friday, the Panthers are paper tigers. The Eagles went to Panther land and kicked butt. The Eagles are now in trouble due to an injury to McNabb. He was hit by 2 players in the endzone AFTER he was down. I will have more to say about that tomorrow.

A couple of other teams showed they may be road warriors. The Jets upset the Texans on the road. It was a nice win led by rookie Sanchez passes. He was 18-31 272 yards 1 TD and 1 pick. Nice start for the rook.

The Jaguars look better than anyone thought. They went into Indy and should have won the game. They ended up losing 14-12. Clearly there is something wrong with the Colts and it has nothing to do with the D not having S Bob Sanders.

The 49ers were road warriors going into Arizona and getting the win. The win was led by the D. Arizona is going to have to improve on the O line to … Read more at FryingPanSports

What to watch for in the games this weekend.

football

College Football:

Georgia Tech v. Clemson  This game was interesting on a couple of levels.  First, GT is going to be a nightmare to defend.  They have the Navy option game working like a fine tuned race car.  But Clemson in previous years would have folded up like a 78 Ford Fairmont after the opponent put 21 points on the board.  But this Clemson team fought back and made a game of it.  These two should be fun to watch going forward.

USC @ Ohio State Forget what the experts are saying. This game will depend on 2 things—the OSU O and D lines. Can OSU drive USC off the ball to run and give Pryor time to throw? Can OSU’s D stop the run and put pressure on the USC QB? The answer to both is no and OSU will lose the game by 14.

Notre Dame @ Michigan Coach Rich Rodriguez’s system will work but he does not have the players on O or D to make it effective. ND finally has some key parts in place. ND wins by 10.

South Carolina @ Georgia Last year all the experts had Georgia at the top of the rankings. … Read more at FryingPanSports
