Dwayne Haskins: Life, Death and Legacy

Dwayne Haskins Jr

Dwayne Haskins Jr. was an American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for three seasons. He played as a quarterback for the Washington Redskins from 2019 to 2021. After his release from the Washington Redskins, he signed for the Pittsburgh Steelers and served as a backup until his death on April 9, 2022.

Early Life

Haskins was born on May 3, 1997 in New Jersey but his family moved to Maryland when he was in grade school (ninth grade). He started playing football in high school and soon developed into an outstanding player. At college level, he was a great player and won a number of awards. Among many other honors, he won the Kellen Moore Award and the Sammy Baugh Trophy. He also set Big Ten Conference records for passing yards and touchdowns in a single season. Hawkins attended Ohio State University where he majored in journalism. However, by 2019, he had become such a hot property that he decided to forgo the remaining two years of his college education and play professional football.

NFC West starting position grades

The NFL got started this past weekend and here are my NFC west starting position grades.

Cardinals
QBSam Bradford or Josh Rosen

Fitz is older than rock and Kirk is a rookie. Behind them group includes Browns reject Greg Little. C-

NFC South starting lineup grades

They are coming out quickly now, getting ready for opening weekend. Here is the NFC South starting lineup grades.

Atlanta Falcons
QB Matt Ryan is often overrated, but mostly gets the job done. Most mistakes come from trying to do too much. His contract extension was sizable but structured well. B+
RB Devonta Freeman Speaking of overrated…though his ceiling tops out well below that of Ryan. How much does Freeman really have in the tank? B-
WR Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and R Calvin Ridley. Drafting Ridley was an odd choice for a team with 2 solid receivers and a lot of defensive issues. Still, this group will help Ryan put points on the board. B+
TE Austin Hooper, Logan Paulsen. Hooper has some potential but makes a lot of critical mistakes. Paulson was a nice veteran FA addition and is a solid blocker. C+
OL LT Jake Matthews LG Andy Levitre C Alex Mack RG Wes Schweitzer RT Ryan Schraeder team is returning all 5 starters, but Brandon Fusco may push Schweitzer for the RG job. Mack is an All Pro. Levitre is an excellent run blocker but is coming off an injury. B-
DL Takkarist McKinley, Terrell

NFC East starting lineup Grades

Lets take a look at the NFL NFC East starting lineup grades. Get the grades before you make your trades.

Cowboys
QB Dak Prescott is a capable leader who had an outstanding rookie campaign but regressed notably in his sophomore effort. Jury’s still out on whether the problem was him or his offensive teammates. C+
RB Zeke Elliott – Assuming he stays out of trouble and off the suspended list, he’s among the best in the NFL. A-
WR Allen Hurns was a good pickup. Terrance Williams is a perpetual underachiever. Cole Beasley is yet to develop into the Julian Edelman type he’s been touted as. Pain in the butt though he may be, this wasn’t the right time to cut Dez. C
TE Witten’s abrupt retirement put the team in a bad spot at TE. Geoff Swaim and Rico Gathers don’t look up to the task. D
OL LT Tyron Smith LG Connor Williams C Travis Frederick RG Zack Martin RG La’el Collins. Smith is having a great camp, but there are no standouts here and the whole group badly underachieved last season. C-
DL DE Demarcus Lawrence DT Datone Jones DT Jihad Ward DE Tyrone Crawford A decent

What should Browns GM John Dorsey tell ownership to do with Jackson?

NOTE:  On NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I discussed the news of the day and Analysis of week 14 on fryingpansports.com/radio-show.

On NNR, I said several weeks ago that if I had the power, I would fire everyone in the building including the cleaning staff.  Now that the “Cleveland Tans” are facing the possibility of 2 seasons with a single win and so many fans showing up dressed as empty seats, it is time to ask the hard questions.

  • How do you get the most loyal and long-suffering fans in the league to buy season tickets for a team that has lost 31 games in 2 seasons?
  • How do you bring back a head coach that has had so many brain cramps and has lost all but 1 game in two years?
  • How can Dorsey keep the scouting staff that did not have the guts to take a QB when they were still on the board at the Browns pick?
  • What makes us think that QB coach David Lee can develop a rookie QB when he has not done much to Kizer develop at all this year?
  • How can Dorsey keep a Defensive staff that has 1 DB
