Great Sports Commercials For Inspiration And Motivation

Advertisements and Commercials have been used for decades to inspire people; the best ones put a lump in our throat or bring a tear to our eye, but they all have one goal – to sell the advertised product. Some companies take a little bit more time and spend a little bit more money than others to achieve something that is great and sports companies have a knack at getting it right. Here we take a look at a few of the most inspirational sports commercials.

Adidas – ‘miCoach Says’

This commercial is the perfect mix of motivation and product placement. Predominantly for the UK and featuring a whole host of UK athletes such as Jessica Ennis, Jonny Wilkinson, Andy Murray and Victoria Pendleton, the music and film combine so well I get itchy feet watching it.

Nike – Lance Armstrong ‘What Are You On?’

There’s no denying that Lance Armstrong’s story is incredible and inspiring, the guy has had to put up with a lot of accusation regarding doping over the years, but there is no denying his ability and athletic capacity. Here he addresses his critics head on in this Nike commercial.

Note: We will continue our preview of the NFL teams on Monday.

Comment of the Month: From Steve on Vegas projects the Browns to win 7 games(???)

Go Browns!!! I think the Browns have more potential this year than the Bengals. The Bengals have had the same team in the past and can’t win. The Browns do have new systems but new is better than old and crappy.

Steve: I am a recovering Browns fan and have the receipts for a number of new TV sets to prove it. The TVs got so depressed with the Browns play that they committed suicide.

I hope I am wrong but I don’t like what I see from Mangini. The Bengals will be better on D with Rivers coming back and Palmer will make the difference. I still will bet the under.

The difference between winning and losing is work ethic and mental toughness.

What did we learn from the British Open?

Tom Watson gave all of us that are older than dirt and even a few that are older than rock a warm feeling by his outstanding British Open. Watson is almost 60. He fought back several times and came within inches of winning the tournament in regulation. Granted, he missed a makable putt on the 18th green to fall into a playoff and then struggled in overtime. However, his performance along with that of Greg Norman last year at the British point out 2 very important points. First, the British Open requires a lot more patience than strength and more experience than power. But the most important lesson from the Open is this. Younger players in almost all sports win or lose based on work ethic and mental toughness more often than on talent and athleticism.

In general, the work ethic of the current group of golfers is not nearly what it was in the days of Nicholas, Palmer, and Player. The equipment is much better now. The athleticism is at a higher level than in the 60’s through the 80’s. One reason that Tiger Woods has been able to … Read more at FryingPanSports

The world vs. Lance Armstrong

The old joke about the French was “Why did the French plant trees along the Champs-Elysses? So that the German soldiers could march in the shade.” Now the joke has another ending. “So that Lance Armstrong can ride in the shade to another Tour de France championship.

Armstrong may well be the best thing and the worst thing that ever happened to the Tour. He has always captured the interest and some coverage and advertising money from the US whenever he has been involved. I guarantee that I would not spend one second writing about the Tour were he not in it. When he retired after 7 wins in 2005, the US and much of the world forgot about the race. ESPN, and the Sporting News Radio would spend a couple of seconds on it only when a winner had been crowned.

But things are different now. Armstrong has crept within a couple of hundredths of a second of the lead. Given his previous performance through the mountains and the latter stages of the race, if he’s even, he’s leavin’.

His story is remarkable. 7 titles despite fighting cancer and the French organizers doing anything they could to prove he … Read more at FryingPanSports
