If the Broncos hire Gary Kubiak Peyton will not be back.

P Manning

Note: On NNR now Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports & I previewed the AFC and NFC Championship games including my picks against the spread. Then College Insider Kelron Sykes and I discussed the NCAA Championship game and some of the NFL news. The podcasts are on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/.

Former Texans HC Gary Kubiak is with the Ravens and had said he was not willing to interview for a HC job. But things changed when he got a call from the Broncos. Now he reportedly will take an interview.

The problem is that the one team that Peyton Manning wanted to go to when he left Indy was the Texans with Kubiak as HC. Frankly they said “thanks but no thanks.”

Peyton does not fit at all in the roll out passing game of Kubiak. That and the fact that Kubiak rebuffed Peyton’s request to come tell me that if Kubiak is the choice, Peyton will move on.

The only chance that Denver has to keep Peyton is to promote the OC Adam Gase to the HC spot. Peyton and Gase have a very good relationship. If the Broncos select Kubiak, then that tells me that they do not want Peyton Read more at FryingPanSports

News, Notes & Rumors for 9/9/14

News:

The best news possible for Bills fans is that Sabers owner Terry Pegula has reached agreement to buy the team. Pegula will keep the team in Buffalo.

The NFL claims they never saw the elevator video of Ray Rice knocking his girlfriend out. I find that not believable. To think that the most powerful sports league in the country couldn’t get a video that TMZ had no problem finding is a lie of the worst kind. It is an attempt to cover up the most ludicrous miscarriage of justice in the history of the NFL. If Roger Goodell had any guts at all he would have changed the suspension when he realized how unfair it was. But he doesn’t and won’t any time soon.

A prosecutor said that the feelings of the victim are taken into consideration when deciding how to proceed with a domestic violence case. In this case it is clear that Janay Palmer wanted Rice to get the minimum punishment. That would explain the decision to place Rice in a diversionary program.

Flag-mania was not prevalent in week 1 of the season. It was good to see that the zebras finally figured out that the DB … Read more at FryingPanSports

News, Notes & Rumors for 8-26-2014

News:

Still no news on the possible suspension of Josh Gordon. Check out my editorial “The entire NFL drug testing program is at risk over Gordon.” right here on https://fryingpansports.com.

The trial of Colts owner Jim Irsay has been postponed from August 28 to October 30. That will give Roger Goodell more time to figure out how to punish him without pissing off the owners. All the players are watching what happens to Irsay.

Rams QB Sam Bradford tore the same ACL (left) that ended his season last year. He is out for the season and put a fork in the Rams—they are done.

The Packers have lost DL B.J. Raji for the season. That is a tough blow and will result in the Pack giving up more run yardage this season.

It was good to see the extra point back to normal. Whoever came up with the 33 yard extra point has WAY too much time on his hands. It would be no different than the NBA moving the free throw line to 3 point distance.

Browns QB Johnny Manziel was fined 12K for his single finger salute to the Redskin fans. Maybe if he had used Read more at FryingPanSports

Brady & Manning vs. Otto Graham and Bart Star

HOF

NOTE: Check out the live News, Notes and Rumors show on Monday, Thursday and Friday at 6 PM Eastern on or the archive of the shows on https://fryingpansports.com/radio-show/. On Monday Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I discuss the results of the weekend. Thursday shows alternate between NFL Draft and basketball. On Friday Tony Williams Giants beat writer for Metro New York joins Samantha and me to preview the upcoming games.

With the AFC Championship between the Patriots and the Broncos, we saw the 15th game between Tom Brady and Payton Manning. Because of that we heard from every sports talk show the ranking of the “5 greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.” Nearly every one was filled with quarterbacks that have played in the last 15 years. There is a MAJOR issue with that. The game has changed more than any other professional sport over the last 60 years. This is not comparing apples to oranges. It is closer to comparing apples to atom bombs.

Forget looking at passer ratings or touchdowns thrown. When Otto Graham and Bart Star played, the head slap of an offensive lineman by a defender was legal and … Read more at FryingPanSports
