Accurate Golf Lob Shots

The golf lob shot is usually a short shot of no more than 50 yards at most, and is usually employed to get the ball high very quickly, often to get it over an obstacle of some kind. It is a shot that can be used in a sand bunker, for example, where you need to lift the ball forcefully and drive it towards the hole, all in one shot, though perhaps a sand wedge is actually more useful in such a situation. A lob wedge is generally used to gain greater accuracy than a full iron shot.

In your set up with a golf lob shot, aim to the left of your target. The reason for doing this is that the ball will spin towards the right upon landing on the green, thereby cancelling out the original left of target attitude. At least, that’s the theory. If you want to add extra height to the ball, say, to lift it over a particularly high obstacle, then open the clubface more before striking the shot.

The swing is important if you hope to get a fairly accurate golf lob. Start by setting your weight fairly evenly distributed on both feet. Feel comfortable with your stance and well balanced. Then you should swing the club back, keeping on your body line, and then swing through without letting the clubface turn in any way. If you finish the shot with the clubface open, that is, pointing upwards towards the sky, then you will have maximised your height potential for the shot. This will also give it a higher degree of spin, which should make it stop quickly once it hits the green.

The reason why you should use a golf lob wedge for shots around 50 yards or so, and not just stick to a sand wedge or pitching wedge, is that it has additional loft, or lifting power. This means it will fly high, but not go to far forwards. This in turn means you can take a full strength swing at the ball, and not be forced to hold back in what is basically a fairly unnatural action. Being able to let fly, as it were, also lets you set a more accurate direction, causing the ball to go more or less where you want it to go.

The golf lob shot is not the easiest of shots to perform. If you give it too little strength it will die on you, going little forward distance and gaining little height as it goes. If you hit too hard it will possibly go too far and not high enough. You really need to “feel” you way through each shot, so a lot of practice is probably the best way to gain the necessary experience.

Six Golfing Swing Tips

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A great game of golf is always easier to appreciate and enjoy with full control over the swing and drive of the club, some would argue that it is actually better to not have control, just go with the flow but how, and where is that flow? to achieve fulfilment from a few fancy strokes.  This is a quick guide to a super swing and a satisfying session of the sport, golf.  One interesting yet highly undervalued recommendation is to remember that golf travel insurance saves money.  Golf sets cost between seven thousand pounds for a limited edition iron set, to around fifty pounds to a basic starter range; with the insurance costing a lot less, it is common sense to ensure that the tools of the trade are protected.

Now the clubs are covered, what is the best way to make use of them?

Swing Improvers

Imitation is the key to a lot of achievements, including golf greatness.  The best of the best have all imitated their role models to learn the keys of turning on a great game.  Whether it be Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, or NickFaldo, they’ve all spent years of time studying others to manifest the technique behind a truly great swing.

Besides observing others, making the effort to check yourself (before you wreck yourself) is the most educational and useful of all. If possible, record going for the long drive with a mobile phone.

It goes without saying that practice makes perfection. Whether on the green, the rug, or in the bath: any type of physical and mental preparation will assist the posture and mentality of hitting the ball.

Be legit, and quit:  only temporarily, until the head is back into the game. Frustration breeds disarray so pushing the putting will only prove an obstruction.

Swing Impairers

Be very careful about choosing role models.  If the person copied is making a cock up of their course: that is what will be influenced.  If an associate is a bad golfer, be selective about who the game is played with, or at least, what the attention is focused on.  Married partners, or close friends have been known to unknowingly copy each other’s style.  Choosing to isolate from bad influence is especially important for attitude, which is the key to any sport or endeavour.

The fool looks cool on the green, and the designer sunglasses may even provide the service of solar protection but they tend to distort the accuracy of distance; on the course the sunglasses stay in the case, for golfers who care more about their craft than looking daft.

A little golf course courtesy goes a long way, and as much as an individual has grown in excitement for the game, or an obvious basic action would improve another golfer’s technical ability, or it might even seem like the opportune time for a colleague counselling caveat: bottom line is don’t offer advice unless it is asked, or even more plainly: live and let live.  A common, yet often broken general recommendation of golf is to leave out any voluntary verification’s or recommendations, unless your valued opinion is asked.  This type of easy aid is occasionally deemed as impolite and arrogance.

The Swinging Six

Of all the instructions in the universe regarding golf the holy six will free anyone to reign in redemption. These super six will be focused deeper in the next article but for now they will get a small mention:

1)      Mind the Mental: The mental is life: what focused on becomes reality, so when it comes to golf, the right attitude will create fortitude.

2)      Position the Posture: The body affects the whole physiology: besides supporting the muscles that are most effective for movement, the mind responds with the body according to how much ease or tension it manages – all of this synchronises to a successful swing.

3)      Pivot for Punch: the swing is formed from a connection of elements including arms, legs, and a torso: the synergy of these elements determines the final outcome.

4)      At Arms: What are the arms doing? Pre, during, and post swing all influence the synchronisation that leads up to the put.

5)      Get to Grips with it: How the tool is held determines how the tool can be used. Although they are both used in sport to propel balls into holes, holding a snooker cue is very different from griping a golf club.

6)      Arrangement: The open green, the golfer, the golf club, the ball, and the tee: what, where, and how all have an influence on the result.

Game for Living

This should have at least provided some basic ideas to get started on the golf course.  The sport is so much more than just hitting balls into a long distance hole, the sheer growth that goes into creating a great golfer is influenced in general by past actions, as well as inspiring in general for future actions.

To take time to learn this game of golf, which some have termed as a ‘game of life’.

For info improving the great game of golf see the other articles within this site.  Club Direct is recommended to contact for insurance on your golf trips.

Who doesn’t know Tiger Woods? He is one of the most popular names when it comes to golf. Aside from natural skills that he possesses and the years of training to perfect his sway and hit the ball, another thing that he perfected through time is using golf equipments, which is very important in the sense that you have to know how to deal with the things that you are using. You might have an idea of how to use it, but do you have the skill to use it properly? The skill might have something to do with the genes or with constant training, which is somehow hard to control. But what you can do is to properly choose the equipment that you are using and be familiar with it.

Golf club and golf balls are the two things that you need to have in order to play one. Of course you need to have a place to practice on.

Choosing the right golf club is very important especially if you are a beginner. People that are starting to play golf must understand that in this point of time you don’t need to have all the equipment or kinds of golf clubs that a pro would use. There are various clubs that are being sold on the market. You have to  know which can be useful to you and which one should be reserved when you are about to be a pro in the game. Before you could play one you need to have a set of golf clubs to use. A standard set would consist of 3 woods, 10 irons and a putter in various configurations. The question that you have to ask yourself is whether all of these things are useful for you or you are just wasting money. When purchasing a golf club, it is advisable that you read golf club reviews. Not only will it give you certain tips in buying one, but also golf club reviews could give you an idea on which one to use and which type to buy. They are not strict rules, but they could be very useful especially when you are just starting to explore the world of golf.
