America’s Passion: How a Coal Miner’s Game Became the NFL in the 20th Century

If you like the NFL you should check out America’s Passion: How a Coal Miner’s Game Became the NFL in the 20th Century

This book was written by our good friend Evan Weiner, TV and Radio pundit, newspaper columnist and public speaker.  The book is filled with stories and interviews of some of the greatest players in the history of the league.
The book traces the league from a meeting in a Canton car dealership to the multi-billion dollar business it is today and Evan provides analysis of exactly why the NFL grew when so many other sports leagues failed to do so.
It is a fascinating work that every NFL fan that has an interest in the history of the game should read.
The National Football League (NFL) is the premier fan sport in the United States. But it wasn’t always like that. Author Evan Weiner takes us back to the days when the NFL was a mom and pop store operation with the players and others who witnessed the league’s growth first hand. The game of football started in the dark coal mines in western Pennsylvania (PA) and is today a multi-billion dollar business.
The work is available

How to start your own sports team in five easy steps

Sometimes, it has to be said, organizing team raiding sessions in World of Warcraft doesn’t really fulfill all your social needs. You love the taste of victory, or crushing an enemy and leading your comrades to triumph, but it somehow seems hollow when, afterwards, you’re still sat at your laptop with only half a bag of Doritos and a 2 liter bottle of Mountain Due to celebrate.

If you want to combine that feeling of victory and comradeship with being in the same room as other people, it may be that starting your own sports team is the thing for you. Starting a sports team, whether it’s for a five-a-side football tournament, beach volleyball, bowling or even motorsports is a great way to spend some time with your mates and get a bit of exercise.

To do this, however, you must first complete several important steps, and they will all be (slightly) harder than the montage in that underdog sports movie you love so much.

Step One: Assemble the guys!

You can recruit players from a bunch of different places. Once you’ve press ganged everyone you can from you World of Warcraft guild and your drinking buddies at the bar, … Read more at FryingPanSports

THE Game turned into THE SHAME–Heat 118 Cavs 90

cavs

The entire NBA world was watching THE Game last night. The fans were great. They cheered their guys and booed with vigor the traitor James. The fans had great and creative signs and despite the national media praying for violence or an act of stupidity by the fans, those that were there did themselves and their city proud.

However, the team that they paid so much to see laid down, rolled over and stuck their feet in the air like a road kill groundhog at the side of the highway. The team and Coach Scott disgraced themselves beyond anything that I could have even believed was possible.

Let me state my bias up front. I have been a Cavs fan since the city was granted a franchise. I was in the old downtown barn the night they beat the Lakers for the first time. When they sold stock to the public, I bought some to support my team. Even through the bad years, and there were a lot of them, I never turned my back on my team. I also never thought they would turn their backs on the fans but that is exactly what they did last night.

Rocky Mountain Broadheads

Rocky Mountain Broadheads

These rocky mountain broadheads are an essential for anyone that would like to hunt in the upcoming season, these are different than other choices on the market today because of the fact that they are expandable and razor sharp. I have purchased them from this website in a three pack, I wanted to try them out in order to kill some deer. I found that they would well, they were accurate and hit the animal very fast. This is what would make them a great choice for the hunting season, there is no reason to go with anything else on the market today.

Additionally, rocky mountain broadheads can be purchased here at some very low prices, for around twenty dollars you can use a pack of three of these that are expandable. They will help you kill deer and save money on wasted ammo, one of the things I hate most is wasting money on bullets and missing the animals I am trying to kill.

These rocky mountain broad-heads are great because you will be able to kill the deer with just one shot, this will limit the amount of money that you spend when you go hunting. Another one … Read more at FryingPanSports

What happened to Brown QB Anderson?

browns

In business competition is necessary to insure the best performance. Anywhere there is no competition like in education, the results seem to decline with time. But a QB competition for the starting spot on an NFL team nearly always ends in disaster.

Anderson rode into the stadium on a white horse to pick up the pieces of Charlie Frye that were scattered all over the field after the first half of the Steeler game to open the 07 season. We found out later that Frye had been traded away between the 3rd and 4th quarters of that game.

He ended 07 with a slightly above average QB rating but there were signs of trouble for anyone that was watching. In the last 5 games of the 07 regular season he threw 7 TDs but 8 picks. When the pressure was on to make the playoffs with a win over the Bengals, he threw 4 picks and lost the game. He got his pro bowl status only after a gaggle of higher rated QBs backed out of the post season exhibition. The league had figured him out even if the Browns leadership had not.

But compared to the dismal QB play … Read more at FryingPanSports
