My Dad was the first man on Omaha Red two hours before the D-Day invasion. We lose hundreds of World War II veterans every day. That group has been called the Greatest Generation. I believe that honor is well deserved.

I was 22 before I found out that Dad had won the Bronze Star with V for valor. He never talked about his service until he joined the VFW. That caused him for the first time to be willing to re-live his experiences. He told his story to my co-author Dr. Phillip Trinity and me. I was able to write his memoirs from those interviews with the help of Phil.

While many were drafted after the Pearl Harbor attack, Dad had seen the war coming and had joined the ROTC at Ohio State. He did his job with wit and valor.

Today, those that serve in the arm forces volunteered to join. When you see someone that is serving or has served, please thank them for their service. It is not much compared to their service but it lets them know … Read more at FryingPanSports
