The people that voted a 3 loss Texas team #2 over the previously unanimous #1 Ohio State team should lose their votes and be banished to watching the Golf Channel and listening to karaoke for eternity.

I don’t really have a problem with moving a 1 loss Kansas team over OSU despite the fact that they are not nearly as good a team as the Bucks. Kansas proved that by promptly losing to unranked 9 loss Kansas State. K State won for only the 2nd time since Moses was a young boy.

But what were the voters thinking by putting a 3 loss Texas team #2? Maybe the question should be are the voters capable of thought?

Texas lost at home to #4 Pitt then to an unranked USC on their floor. On Jan. 8th they lost at home again to #9 UConn. My question is this. How would you feel if like the joke of a “system” like the BcS decided the NCAA Basketball Champion?

We all like to evaluate how badly our favorite teams have screwed up the draft. I though you might like to see how I evaluate players. I will be doing a draft rap up here on the Browns and other teams after the draft.

This outlines the system I have used for more than 40 years in evaluating college players for the NFL draft. The system is based on a point system. A number of years ago, I was in Indy the week of the Combine. I ran into a couple of Colt scouts in the hotel lobby. I suggested that they look at a C that I really liked but would probably not be drafted. He wasn’t drafted but the Colts signed him as a rookie undrafted free agent. The player was Jeff Saturday. All he has done is become an all pro for many years and the captain of the O line for Payton Manning. I found him using this system.

To use it, there are a few rules that must be followed.

The NCAA announced today that 5 Ohio State players will be suspended for 5 games in 2011 for selling Big 10+1 Championship rings, the Gold pants they get for beating Michigan and some other items. There is a HUGE fraud here but it has nothing to do with the 5 players. The FRAUD is the NCAA itself.

First, the 20 year old juniors assumed that the rings and other jewelry they won on the field and were presented were their property! The OSU AD Gene Smith (no relation) said that exact thing in a press conference.

My question for him and the NCAA is this. Who the hell are you to tell anyone what they can do with their own property!

We are not talking about the players selling a ring for 500K. These transactions were at a realistic value for the items sold but it is not about that. The majority of kids used the money to help their families, but it is not about that either.

Mavs Owner Mark Cuban is looking into starting a REAL NCAA Championship Playoff system for College Football.

Mark Cuban has always been one of the most outspoken proponents of marketing in the NBA. But he has interests far beyond that sport. He attempted to buy the Chicago Cubs but was rebuffed by the Old Boys Club known as Major League Baseball. Now he has another idea and this one is something I can really get behind–He wants to finance a true NCAA Playoff system. He told ESPNDallas.com: “The more I think about it, the more sense it makes as opposed to buying a baseball team. You can do something the whole country wants done.”

There are precedents for starting a true playoff. Pryor to the first NCAA Basketball National Championship Tournament, the National Invitational Tournament was the “unofficial” championship. It took a few years before the NIT became a footnote and the NCAA Tournament became the central focus as the “real” championship.

Cuban wants to replace the BcS and most of the football world (except the pinhead ivy covered college presidents) agrees it should go. Cuban is totally correct that there would be a lot more money generated by a national playoff than by the 34 bowl games plus the BcS Championship game.

Mississippi @ #5 LSU – LSU is promoting the concept that the highest ranked SEC team should have a shot to play in the BcS national championship game. If Auburn loses to either Alabama in the Iron Bowl or in the SEC game against South Carolina, LSU is making the case that they are the natural choice to play in the big game. The argument is that their schedule is much tougher than either Bosie or TCU. LSU should win.

#6 Stanford @ California – Stanford is a well balanced team ranking 9th nationally in points scored and 27th in points against. Cal’s only hope is to use their running game to keep QB Luck and the Stanford O off the field. Stanford wins but they do not play as well on the road so it could be close.

#7 Wisconsin @ Michigan – This is the last test for the Badgers. The Blue D is very young but has gotten a little better this season. The Blue O will be a challenge IF QB Robinson is healthy. Look for the Badgers to win but it should be fairly close.
