Coaches on the hot seat in 2017

1Jets Cuts of all the vets won’t help the win totals and cost the coaches their jobs.

2

Browns After a 1-15 season, they better get at least 6 wins to keep their jobs

3

Bears After a 3 win season, they better get at least 6 games or Fox & company are gone

4

Colts Bad ownership & GM will cost HC Chuck Pagano his job.  Part of the blame is on him and his staff.

5

Bengals had better get to the playoffs & win a game or Marvin Lewis cpuld be history

6

Panthers need to get control of QB Cam Newton or Rivera may be history.

7

Jags better get more than 3 wins or Bye Bye. Doug Marrone has failed before could fail again.

8

LA Chargers Moves are always hard. GM has not done the Coaches any favors.

9

The Vikes may have to get back in the playoffs or Mike Zimmer could be in trouble. Injuries have plauged the Vikes

10

Ravens HC John Harbaugh is not in serious trouble but OC Marty Morinwheg is not helping him. Playoffs or MM is out

NNR Mock Draft 2.0

To hear the details check out the radio show page where Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports & Tony Williams of Metro New York joined me to talk about this mock.

1Cleveland BrownsQB PR CB S OT Myles GarrettDETexas A&M
Clearly the best pass rusher in the draft. Motivated & ready to play
2San Francisco 49ersQB G CB C OLB DESolomon ThomasDEStanford
2Y ST good frame & quickness but may be a pr specialist only.    West coast bias?
3Chicago BearsPR WR CB S T TEJonathan AllenDEAlabama
John Fox will love Allen’s ability to play DE or DT.
4Jacksonville JaguarsTE RB DT T G QB?Leonard FournetteRBLSU
I would never take a RB in the 1st round. He is good but not 1st rounder.
5Tennessee TitansCB WR S ILBMarshon LattimoreCBOhio State
1.5y st speed & size Twitchy athl that does not hold at LOS. Runs better patterns than WRs.
6New York JetsQB OLB CB DEMitchell TrubiskyQBNorth Carolina
Takes a risk on a QB that started just 1 year. Good upside but lots of risk

The Vikings and Panthers may have given their suspended players a gift.

Both the Vikings and Panthers suspended their players involved in spouse or child abuse for last weeks game. Now both teams have declared their active for the week 3 games.

But here is the rub. By suspending RB Adrian Peterson and DE Greg Hardy the teams have taken action against them for their off field issues. Now the NFLPA can claim that because the two were suspended for a game, any additional suspension would be double jeopardy which is prohibited in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. That could prohibit the team or league from taking any additional action against the two players on the same issue.

So far the NFLPA has not shown a great deal of guts in challenging the league on suspensions. It will be interesting to see how these latest issues turn out. I suspect that the NFLPA will back off again. But time will tell.

That is what I think. Tell us what you think by commenting here or tweeting me @NNRonDSN.

News, Notes & Rumors Week 1

nfl

News:

The running game in week 1 was WAY down in part because lots of NFL teams have major O line issues.  The Seahawks struggled to score 12 points against the Panthers.  The Browns could not run or pass in a loss to the Dolphins.  The Steelers lose their C Maurkice Pouncey and score only 1 TD.  There was only one RB that got 100+ yards (Shane Vereen of the Pats). and he has a broken bone in his wrist.

Colin Kaepernick QB of the 49ers was outstanding against the Packers.  He was 27-39 412 yards with 3 TDs and no picks.  His new best friend is former Raven WR Anquan Boldin who caught 13 passes for 208 yards and a TD.  Despite only running for a total of 90 yards the Niners beat the Pack.   Jim Harbaugh is going to owe brother John a REALLY nice Christmas gift for the trade of Boldin.

While the Bills D played well, the Pats are clearly hurt by the loss of targets for Tom Brady.  Of course the two fumbles by RB Stevan Ridley did not help the O.  The same can be said for the Ravens losing … Read more at FryingPanSports

A different view of Stanford QB Luck’s decision and the “Cutlering” of Miami coach Spirano.

s1

There has been a lot of talk about why Andrew Luck and his golden arm will stay at Stanford for another year when every NFL draft analyst agrees he would be the #1 selection in the 2011 draft.

Some believe that he just really likes the college life style.

Some think he wants to work a little more on his game. He is a redshirt sophomore and has 2 more years of eligibility. He has only started 2 years for the Cardinals.

I have no idea why he decided to stay but it raises a HUGE red flag to me.

I have serious doubts about how important his NFL career is to Luck. If I was the owner of the Carolina Panthers, I would not want to spend 50 million dollars on a guy that may or may not be committed to the game and the team. Payton Manning went back for a final year at Tennessee but it was clear that his goal was to beat the Gators for once in his career.

This will be the last draft in which the first pick will get 50+ million dollars guaranteed. As soon as there is a new Collective Bargaining … Read more at FryingPanSports

The pressure is on Delhomme to take the Panthers to the next level.

t

It’s hard to find many holes in the Carolina Panthers but there is one Empire State building size question mark—Can Jake Delhomme take the team deep into the playoffs? Delhomme enters his 11th season but he has only 6 seasons starting (not counting his 3 games in 07). He is a slightly above average QB but not the guy that can get a team over the hump to the Super Bowl. In 04 and 05 he threw 53 TDs and only 31 picks. He made the pro bowl and looked like he was about to become a star. That star faided quickly because in 06 he was back to throwing about as many TDs (17) as Ints (11). 07 was a lost year with injuries. Last season was another average season (15TDs and 12 Ints). What was worse, he blew up in the playoff game giving away the hard earned home field advantage and throwing his team right out of the playoffs.

This year will decided if he is the guy or if the team will try to get a starter of the future in what is expected to be one of the all time great QB drafts in … Read more at FryingPanSports
