Sports Memories of my Dad.

ME001_fc

My Dad was a true hero. He was the first American on Omaha Red beech 2 hours before D-Day. I wrote about that on the 70th anniversary of the invasion. He died at 95 three years ago today. There is not a single moment of the day that I don’t think about him and what he stood for. A few days ago I wrote about our pilgrimage to Cincinnati to see the Cubs play the Reds.

There is another sports related memory I would like to share.

Dad and I were playing golf and I was on the green in 2 with a 40 foot putt for a bird.

“Dad, if I make this you should buy me a sports car for my birthday.”

“Deal.” I sank the putt. A month later on my 17th birthday we went shopping for a sport car. We ended up buying a Sunbeam Tiger. Like in every other aspect of his life, he was a man of his word. That is just one more thing I miss every day about him.

Please share your sports memories of you parents here or tweeting me @NNRonDSN. I would like to see them. Thanks.
