LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling still fighting the NBA

Sterling

When someone turns his back on 2 billion dollars to start a spitting contest with a major sports league, he is deadly serious. Donald Sterling did exactly that preferring to fight the NBA than split 2 billion with his wife. The suit is likely to be long and costly for both sides. The NBA and new commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling for life, fined him 2.5 million dollars and forced him to sell the team. All of this was justified by what Sterling said. However, none of the comments are likely to be admissible in court.

Sterling was willing to sell the team. The deal breaker was Silver’s unwillingness to drop the life time ban on Sterling attending NBA games. Even some owners showed concern over the league forcing a team sale based on a private conversation.

As I predicted weeks ago, this is going to be a long and drawn out court battle unless both sides can come to their senses and work out a deal. The whole thing could have been avoided if Silver would have dropped the ban. Now no one but the lawyers will profit from the hubris on both sides. That is the way of the world these days.

That is what I think. Tell us what you think.
