It was a nice win for the Cavs but…

NOTE: On NNR Samantha Bunten of NBC Sports and I analyzed the depth chart of the Browns. There will be no shows until Friday the 29th. Have a great Memorial Day and thanks for listening.

The Cavs got a nice win last night that gives them home court advantage. But there were three things that bothered me.

First, while the shot selection was better by most of those on the floor, there were some poor decisions about shots and use of the shot clock. The Cavs need to tighten up their shot selection even more. While they could well beat the Hawks, shot selection will be much more important in the finals.

Second, there was yet another slow start. The Cavs were lucky that the Hawks were cold shooting. As a result the Cavs did not fall behind too far. While some of that was due to the Cavs defense, most of it was just bad shooting. However, the Cavs need to get off to a much faster start.

But by far the biggest problem I had was the late game let down that allowed the Hawks to cut the deficit from 18 points to just 4 points. The Cavs have shown a habit of falling asleep during the game and letting hard won leads get away. They got away with it last night but that is a formula for disaster in the playoffs. They have to get in the habit of putting their foot on the throat of the opponents once they get a decent lead. Anything less will put a potential championship at great risk.
