The 2012 NFL draft is sure to be one of the best rookie classes in a long time.  Some of the hottest players are going to be on top of many football card collectors’ want lists.  Part of the reason why this draft class is getting so much attention from collectors is the amount of offensive players that are supposed to be drafted in the top 10. Many scouts believe that at least 5 of these players are going to be franchise type players that can change the dynamic of a struggling franchise right away.  Here is a breakdown of our top 3 football card picks for the 2012 NFL draft class.

Andrew Luck – Andrew Luck football cards will be at the top of most collectors’ want lists in 2012.  The Stanford quarterback has become one of the elite prospects to come out of college in over a decade.  Most scouts believe that Luck will be drafted first by the Colts.  If the Colts decide to stick with Peyton Manning then you can expect the Colts to trade the #1 pick in the draft to a team willing to over pay to get the Stanford star.

Robert Griffin III – The Heisman winning QB is on top of many teams’ draft charts especially those who are in need of a franchise quarterback.  Griffin has great passing skills and can improvise with his legs.  He has the potential of being an elite all around quarterback with scrambling abilities which are needed in today’s game.  Companies like Upper Deck and Topps are sure to give collectors more than a few options when it comes to the Robert Griffin rookie cards.

Trent Richardson – Many scouts believe Trent Richardson is one of the top all-around backs to enter into the draft since Adrian Peterson.  The Alabama running back has all the gifts that are needed to be a great back in the NFL.  He can run, catch, and even block well which makes him the total package for NFL teams in need of a playmaker at the running back position.  You can expect his football card prices to skyrocket once the season starts.

When you decide that you want to play soccer, you should take the time that you need to be sure that you are safe.  There are a lot of people that get injured playing soccer and you want to take the time that you need to research how you can ensure that you are preventing soccer injuries.

First, you should be sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to be wise about the way that you are going to prepare for a game.  Whether you are playing indoor soccer, outdoor soccer or street soccer you want to be sure that you are ready for the game.

To ensure that your body is ready you will want to make sure that you can stretch out your muscles.  When you are stretching you want to make sure that you are also warming up your muscles so that they are able to stretch as far as they can before you start playing.

Soccer is full of quick movements that can be very detrimental to tight muscles.  Make sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to stretch out all of your muscles so that you can be sure you are able to move quickly without hurting yourself.

As you are playing soccer you will use a very specific set of muscles.  Throughout the game, you may find that you are not only using the specified set of muscles but that you also end up using all of the muscles throughout your body as you are running, twisting and turning to make a goal.

To ensure that you are able to minimize your chances of being injured, you should be sure that you are warming up.  As you stretch your muscles you will also want to lightly jog around the entire field so that you can get an increased amount of blood flow into your muscles.

Second, you should be sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to dress when you play soccer.  There are a lot of people that do not realize how they are to suit up to ensure that they are safe and those that are playing with them and around them are safe.

Make sure that you take time to find a good pair of soccer cleats.  There are a lot of people that have a hard time understanding that when they are shopping for soccer cleats they will want to find the cleats that are molded or ribbed instead of the cleats that have the screw in rips.

When you are using the screw in tips you will find that you have a higher risk of injury.  The only time that these tips are going to be more beneficial than risky is when you are playing on a wet field or even a field that has tall grass and is being slippery because there is no traction.

Third, you should be sure that you are wearing shin guards.  When you are shopping for shin guards you have to make sure that you take the time that you need to find the protection for your shins that will ensure you are able to play safely without running into any problems.

As you are playing with your shin guards you have to make sure that you understand that people are going to be kicking your shins.  Throughout the soccer game you will find that people will accidentally or purposely hit your shins with their cleats and you will need the proper protection.

Fourth, you should be sure that you take the time that you need to be sure that you are wearing soccer socks.  The soccer socks that you are going to wear will ensure that the shin guards you are wearing will not slip all over your leg or even fall off when you are playing.

Make sure that you take the time that you need to understand how you are going to be wise about the way that you are preparing for each soccer game.  As you are wise about the proper preparation for your soccer games you can be sure that you are as safe as you can possibly be.

Playing street soccer is a great way to work out and keep your body healthy. Take time to play soccer consistently so that you can be sure you are enjoying your exercise.

How to start your own sports team in five easy steps

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

English: The Fernhurst Sports FC 1st Team with...

Image via Wikipedia

Sometimes, it has to be said, organizing team raiding sessions in World of Warcraft doesn’t really fulfill all your social needs. You love the taste of victory, or crushing an enemy and leading your comrades to triumph, but it somehow seems hollow when, afterwards, you’re still sat at your laptop with only half a bag of Doritos and a 2 liter bottle of Mountain Due to celebrate.

If you want to combine that feeling of victory and comradeship with being in the same room as other people, it may be that starting your own sports team is the thing for you. Starting a sports team, whether it’s for a five-a-side football tournament, beach volleyball, bowling or even motorsports is a great way to spend some time with your mates and get a bit of exercise.

To do this, however, you must first complete several important steps, and they will all be (slightly) harder than the montage in that underdog sports movie you love so much.

Step One: Assemble the guys!

You can recruit players from a bunch of different places. Once you’ve press ganged everyone you can from you World of Warcraft guild and your drinking buddies at the bar, you can also recruit players at the local park and stick posters up at the leisure center, town hall and local businesses for tryouts.

It’s not essential, but if you can find a once legendary player who’s since fallen on hard times and hit the drink, for whom this team might be his one last shot at redemption, then that’s definitely a plus.

Step Two: Financing!

Yes, the chances are everyone will have to pay money to join your team of sports legends. Most leagues will charge you an entry fee to take party. You’ll also need to buy equipment and uniforms. Once you’ve worked this out it will be the last bit of maths you have to do for this project, I swear.

Step Three: Pick a name!

The name of your team should strike fear into the hearts of your enemies, while inspiring your supporters. It will be a name whispered down the generations as people tell the tales of your team’s mighty exploits. So try not to make it too silly. When it comes to picking a team name, there are two main schools of thought.

School one is to think of an animal, then prefix that animal’s name with the verb “Fighting”. The Fighting Badgers, the Fighting Iguanas, the Fighting Anteaters- it works for literally anything.

School two is to take the name of the place you live in, and suffix a noun verb that sounds vaguely threatening. The Cambridge Destroyers, the Leicestershire Usurpers, the Southampton Shouters. I’m sure your suggestions will be better than mine.

Step Four: Get a uniform!

The uniform is what brings you together, turning you from a ragtag bunch of misfits into an actual team.  Think what the Storm Troopers in Star Wars would be without their distinctive white robot suits, or what Hipsters would be without their tiny mustaches and thick rimmed spectacles.

You needn’t go quite as extreme as full body armor or irritating facial hair however. It’s surprisingly cheap to get specially embroidered polo shirts, for instance. To bring your team colors to perfection, however, you’ll need a team logo. A symbol that describes everything your team is and aspires to be. If you went with School One of team name, this will be extremely easy. Just a picture of your animal of choice, fighting or looking like it’s about to fight. At this point, it’s a good idea to find your friend who’s a graphic designer and get them to help you out.

Step Five: Train!

This is the really hard bit. Now that you’ve assembled your team, picked an intimidating name and designed some really stylish uniforms, you’re actually going to have to get good at the sport you’ve chosen to play. So, good luck with that!

MLB Games Tryouts

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Where is the scout?

NEW YORK, NY - NOVEMBER 22: Major League Base...

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

This is the question that many parents and young aspiring baseball players ask during spring season as they get ready to go to the ballpark with dreams of having multi-million dollar bonuses in their heads. What many of them fail to realize is that the interest of these scouts is not merely a game of waiting, not is it something to be ignored. The jocks who throw great pitching during their high school practices can just sit around in their basements and play video games and still the scouts may find them. As for a lot of people, you need to go after them and practice hard. This is where the trout for Major League Baseball will come in.

Tryout is a word that often proves to be misleading because it implies the fact that the scouts choose specific players that they want, sign them, and then put them into the system of the minor league. However, from the standpoint of MLB Games tryouts, these are just opportunities for them to check out the young players who will be joining the selection for the player drafts. Most organizations make use of tryouts in the hopes that they can find some kids that would be worth adding to their roster of players. They will them check them out in the months that will lead up to the subsequent and next drafts that would be conducted.

Those who have qualified for the first year draft for players will include all the high school graduates chosen who have not yet been to college, college players who have already finished their junior year, all of the junior college athletes, and all other players that will turn 21 years old within 45 days from the date of the scheduled draft. Seniors who are in their fifth year will not be subject to the draft and they are free to sign in whatever organization that they want after they have completed their final college classes. Many of the Major League Baseball camps for tryouts are open for players with ages of 16 to 23.

In some cases, a player will be sign

ed out of a certain tryout, but this does not really happen often. But if you sign with a certain MLB organization in a Major League Baseball tryout, it only happens in one of these two situations:

  • The player has already attracted the interest of people from the organization ahead of time, but he sustained an injury, then he shows up to a tryout for Major League Baseball and proves that he can play 100%.
  • The Major League Baseball organization is very keen on the area on low minors like pitching with the left hand and a player arrives with an exceptional talent that will fill up the specific void.

5 Paintball Tips for Beginners

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Paintball is a very exciting hobby, but when you are first getting started playing paintball you want to be aware of some things. Spend a few minutes going over these five paintball tips for beginners, and you and the people playing with you will enjoy the game much more.

One important paintball tip for beginners is to communicate.
Many times a beginning player will quietly play the game and feel it isn’t their place yet to speak up and communicate with the other players on the team. The more you communicate with your fellow players the better you will do.

By communicating with your team you will be in a better position to coordinate attacks on them. Many times opposing teams change the strategy mid-game, and if you don’t let your team know about changes you see, they can be exposed to potential attacks. The more you communicate the better the team will know where on the field all the opposing players are. Communication doesn’t have to only involve radio, if you see something you can shout it out to your team members.

A great tip for beginners is to practice on your own. Take some time and go practice in areas that you are weak at. Take in a game over the weekend and get some time on offense if that is where you are lacking. You can improve the more you play so when you are in a game with your team and they need to call on your for something, you will ready to go. You can also go to a paintball match and observe players and pick up some tricks and techniques that could help your overall game. Remember that practice will only improve your skills.

Get familiar with you equipment.
If you know that your gun can not shoot past 50 feet, then when you are in battle and at a significant distance, save your paint. If your gun isn’t very good at rapid fire, when the battle calls for a high speed shootout you know you should not be at the head of the charge. If you can’t aim and run with your gun at the same time, don’t try it when your team is counting on you. The trick here is to become familiar with all your equipment and then play to your strengths, not your weakness.

What To Wear For Paintball? When you dress for paintball, wear dark clothing.
You will blend in better with the surroundings and give yourself a small advantage. Never wear white to a paintball battle or you will be the first target all day long. Make sure to wear hiking boots or running shoes. You want your feet as comfortable as possible because you may be running, walking or standing around for long periods of time. If the game allows cleats, they make sure you get a pair. Cleats can provide you many little advantages in the game, from being able to maneuver in mud to getting excellent traction in wet grass.

A final paintball tip for beginners is to always keep your eyes open
. Many beginners get tunnel vision and see a target and go like a jet directly to them without ever looking sideways and get blasted mid-stride. Sometimes beginners get so focused on a potential target they even forget to look behind them. Many opposing players set traps and use decoys to flush out players. Keep your eyes open and always be aware of your surroundings in a complete 360 degree radius.

Cornhole: It’s a Serious Outdoor Sport

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

MILWAUKEE, WI - OCTOBER 01: Fans play cornhol...

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

When many people hear about the game cornhole for the first time, the first reaction is often snickering or laughter. While this might seem like just another bean bag toss game with a silly name from the Midwest, cornhole is actually gaining strong momentum as a very serious game. The history of cornhole is a little muddled as no one is quite sure when exactly it started for the first time. Some stories say the original version of this game came from German immigrants in the 1400s, while others have the game as being created in the Midwest around Indiana and Kentucky about a century ago. Whatever the true nature of this game’s history, it doesn’t change the momentum that cornhole has created for itself as a serious pastime.

You might be surprised to know that there is even an additional governing body for the sport. The ACA, American Cornhole Association, is the official governing body of cornhole and creates the standard regulations for the game as well as sets up official tournaments for professional corn toss players. That’s right, there is an official set of rules for informal games as well as an official set of cornhole rules for professional matches. Sponsored cornhole tournaments are not just found in one or two states, either.  It’s not at all unusual for the ACA website to have over a dozen tournaments located in over 10 states at any given time. Stretching from Minnesota down to Florida, the reach of cornhole seems to be growing with each passing year.

The ACA acknowledges in its mission statement the goal of continuing to promote and encourage the game of cornhole until it is a mainstay in all 50 US states. They also stand to serve as a resource for disagreements on rules scoring, since they are now creating the standard rules and regulations that all professionals are using in their tournaments.  This commitment is starting to pay off, and there’s little question that curiosity about the sport continues to rise.

One of the reasons the sport of cornhole is likely to continue to gain in popularity and support it because it is a very easy game to learn and actually makes sense for outdoor get-togethers as well as making a great family game. Add in the natural competitive nature of all the professional teams competing with one another, and you can bet that these competitions are going to continue for years and probably find more more new members along the way.

There is a lot to like about the sport. Cornhole bags are certainly a heck of a lot safer than lawn darts, the simplicity of the game allows virtually anybody to play, and you still have fun as a group while remaining competitive in a good-natured way with one another. Having the actual organization to create a governing body just shows how popular the sport of cornhole has already become. While the name might be funny to some, there’s little question that cornhole is here to stay and that the game will only become more popular over time.
