Preseason is over, but the war has just begun. Football fans have been coming out of summer hibernation to support their favorite teams with fervor, body paint, beer, air horns, and dreams of the Super Bowl dancing in their heads. Many teams are already proving their worth in the pre-season, and the Philadelphia Eagles are one of them.

Football fans alike are excited for what the season and these teams will bring, and Eagles fans think that the Eagles may have what it takes this year to make it all the way to the Super Bowl in 2012.

“They signed a bunch of free agents that just makes them incredible,” Dr. Ken Siegel, a dentist and die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan comments. “Besides having Michael Vick, they signed a bunch of free agents that are just kick-ass!”

The Eagles are packing a hefty roster balanced on one hand with well known and fantastic players, and on the other with rookies, and really cleaned up during the Free Agent acquisitions. Couple that with their 3 to 1 winning streak during preseason, and this may make the Philadelphia Eagles the team to beat this season.

Key Players That Could Lead to Victory

The Eagles are looking more fresh and alive than ever this season, and hopefully this overhaul will lead them out of their 51 year slump. The team recently signed on a number of key players, which is in itself revitalizing the already die-hard fans of the football team, and many fans are already picking out their player of choice that will make the most difference in rising this team from the ashes, especially during their rival game against the New York Giants.

Tom Jackson at Eagle’s Eye Blog (www.eagleseyeblog.com) is throwing most of his cards in with former Green Bay defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins, who he believes will be the biggest game changer for the season. “Jenkins has brought a huge dimension to the Eagles’ defensive line—a huge guy who can really move. This guy not only gets pressure on the QB pocket, he bats down passes, forces fumbles and blocks kicks. I think he is a potential game changer against the Giants, and not many fans outside Green Bay really know that much about them.” The element of having a defensive lineman that is the equivalent to a refrigerator heading down a steep hill can really give the Eagles an edge against the Giants’ offense seeing that Eli Manning has been somewhat off his game and out of sync with his receivers during the preseason games.

Along with Cullen Jenkins, Jackson thinks that cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, defensive end Jason Babin, back-up running back Ronnie Brown, and back-up quarterback Vince Young can lend great things to his beloved Philadelphia Eagles.

Look Out New York Giants…

Eagle’s fans are biting their nails in anticipation for the big game against the New York Giants, scheduled for September 25th. Gauging from last year’s intense games against New York, along with the teams new roster, the Giants has better show up with their game faces on.

“Last year the Giants were in first place and their downfall came right after the Eagle’s game,” Dr. Siegel recalls, “They were up by like four or five touchdowns and the Eagles came back and beat them.”

Though the rivalry was won by the Eagles in 2010, this year can always prove to be a different outcome. Most fans believe that the Giants are going home with their tails between their legs and the Eagles will taste sweet victory once again, but the probability of an Eagles win may be too close to call.

Jackson says, “The Giants and the Eagles always play tight pressure-packed games. The Giants have their injury problems right now. But in another month it could be the Eagles with key injuries and the Giants may have made all the right adjustments. I’ve seen it work like that a lot in the past.” Instead of a victory, Jackson is predicting a narrow defeat on September 25th for the Eagles, figuring that the Giants are probably due a win after so many losses in recent history. “I’m getting a feeling that the G-Men beat the Birds in a tight one on September 25th, which will set up a huge showdown in the return match later in the season. If I were writing a script based on probability, that’s how it would go.”

Super Bowl 2012 Champs?

The Philadelphia Eagles don’t have a great track record when it comes down to Super Bowl appearances, but fans are even more hopeful that this year will be the year to break their dry streak.

“I think they’re a front runner,” Dr. Seigel says. The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot going for them so far, and there are a lot of games to be played between now and February. It can be anyone’s ball game at this point.

Jackson thinks that it’s too soon to tell whether the Eagles have a shot at the Vince Lombardi trophy, and there are a lot of factors involved that could make or break the possibility before the Eagles can even think about the championship. “The real Super Bowl question in my mind is: can they win the Eastern division of the NFC? And if so, can they get home field advantage and a bye in the playoffs? If the answer to either of these questions is ‘No’, then the Eagles will not even be in the Super Bowl, let alone win it.”

It may very well be too soon to tell, but Eagles fans all over are still excited for the prospects of the season and await the next game against the Jets.

“I plan on trying to get as many tickets as I can,” Dr. Siegel explains. “It can be tough because they’re always sold out. You have to either know someone who has tickets that are not interested or buy them on eBay.” Eagles tickets sell for top dollar on sites such as eBay and Craigslist, as the team has some of the most dedicated followers in America.

So if you are waiting to get into an Eagles game, jump on the opportunity before it’s too late. You might end up watching Sportscenter in your living room if you wait too long.
